For those of you who are looking to do the projector mod, make sure you have a full day and willing friend or two to make this process go faster. Between my buddy and I, it took us 23 hours to complete the install. I used projectors out of a 2003 M3, they are bigger than most projector lens', so have wider coverage. I located the bulbs, ballasts, ignitors and projectors off of Ebay for about $400. Audi, NSX, S2000 are also very good projectors. Do not skimp on this vital part, you will kick yourself later. The reason I went with the M3 setup was for the fact that their ballasts are plug and play with our existing wiring harness for the low beams. Talk about plug and play.
In terms of install, be patient and meticulous. Have a plan of attack and go to the hardware and get as much of what you think you need so you don't have to keep running back and forth. Here is my step by step, best as I can remember. Tools: DREMEL Cannot stress how important this tool is. Various dremel bits (Sanding wheel, cutting disc, drill bits) Phillips screwdriver 10mm Socket wrench 1) As you guys undoubtedly know, you need to remove the headlight and heat it in the oven, at 250 for 10 minutes. Dont worry this wont melt your housing, but do not try and do any higher temp to speed up the process either. 2) Remove the glass diffuser inside the housing by taking off the 8 or so metal clips. I opted not to reuse mine, since I thought it looked cleaner. Now remove the reflector housing by unscrewing the adjuster bolts on the back of the assembly. This takes a while, but trust me, it will come off. 3) Now comes the tedious part, and the hardest to explain. You need to study the projecter, and dicide how you want to mount it. Once you figure this out, start cutting away the back of the reflector housing using a dremel drywall bit. This bit is awsome, because you can cut and drill with the same tool, very handy. Once you remove enough material, you need to come up with some way of securing the projector in there. 4) This is the part that I wish early people had elaborated on, but now I know why thy didn't. It is very difficult to explain. Just get creative. I would suggest using small bolts and washers. I also used small springs to keep everything stable and planted. If this sounds confusing, I am sorry, but I am still confused on how I did it. This was the hardest part for me. 5) Your pretty much done now. Reassemble the whole housing using reverse steps. To make the install cleaner, you can opt to make your ow trim rings, as the factory ones are damn near impossible to find. You can also add angel eyes and polish your lenses while you are at it. Hope this helps guys. Good luck. |
