Purchasing 91-95 Legend as daily driver

Hi, this seems like a great forum!

I've always liked the 91-95 Legend, and currently own a 2002 MDX that has been great. I need a reliable daily driver, I only drive about 5k miles/year and thought that a Legend would be good. Am looking on cars.com, autotrader.com, ebay etc. to find one in or within striking distance of NJ.

Anything in particular I should watch out for? Believe older Hondas/Acuras were rust-prone in the NorthEast, is that a big concern with the Legends? Anything else? Would appreciate guidance from the experts in this forum!

The most critical thing you need to look for is any evidence of past or present overheating; If you can find a Legend that has all the maintenance records, that is a MAJOR bonus. Make sure the coolant has been regularly changed, make sure the timing belt and water pump have been changed at 90K intervals, etc. If the car ever overheated or seems like it is developing issues, I wouldn't take it if it were free (well, maybe I would).

If I had to do my purchase over, I would hold out for another 1994-1995 Legend, and nothing less than an LS, preferably a GS. Traction control and heated seats would be nice here in Northern VA. Also, there is the matter of the more powerful Type-II engine, which I would probably hold out for...and lastly, I probably would shop for a coupe, since those cars are just plain SEX when they are clean and maintained. Still, I like my 94 Sedan.

There are a lot of "what to look for" threads here, learn to use the "search" function before one of the more cranky members says something to you! LOL

Thanks for the tip! I just read through the FAQ's etc, kind of scary!

Saw an ad for a 1994 Coupe with only 75k miles, original owner, but unfortunatetly the car was gone by the time I responded. Will keep looking, and will definitely have a thorough professional check-up before buying anything, else will be forced to get something less rewarding / less risky...

I see a lot of 1991 car for sale in my area for cheap. What are the main differences between 91-93 vs 94-95? I have read the FAQ, but I have never driven 91-93 before.

They are still good cars, but fact-of-the-matter is they are aging, none of us can help that. A 1991 Legend was selling in 1990, I think...Some forum members here weren't born then.

The G2 Legend was tweaked for 1994; The front fascia is a little different, Acura dropped the "base" Legend in 1994, and added the GS as the top-of-the-line Legend in the Sedan line. I think also the GS and LS Coupes got the more powerful Type-II engines.
