Questions from a new proud owner of 95 LS Coupe 6-speed
Ladies and Gentleman,
I got my 95 Black LS Coupe 6-speed yesterday. I am lovin' it lovin' it, and lovin' it. Got the speed, style, and the luxury. But I gotta take care of some stuffs to love this even more. So you guys gotta help me out. Here I go... 1. I am planning to ungrade my headunit. How do I take out the headunit? I did some search, and found out that I have to take out the wood trim around the shifter and headunit to access the headunit. But I how do I take this wood trim out? 1.5 What is the best route to run wires and cables all the way to the trunk from headunit? 2. My shift knob is all worn, so I replaced it with some RAZO knob. (although I kinda miss 6-speed on the knob) It looks pretty good, but the shift boot is not secured by the knob anymore. Is there a trick to make this not move around? 3. I got Blitz type 3 17x8 +45 offset with 45/215 on them. I also did some search on this, and got mixed opinions about it. Some says it will rub, and some say it won't. Do I need to roll the fender? I am gonna get some Koni's and eventually lower it slightly. Anyone knows this for sure? Anyone has this wheels on their coupe? (pix?) 4. Does it have clear coat on our black paint? I got Zaino polish for my non-clear coat MR2 and wondering if I can use this for me Legend. 5. Should I get black tint or silverish reflective tint? (Cars in Boston are allowed upto 35% tint in the front.) 6. When I blast the a/c, it makes whistle kinda noise. What's wrong with it? Thanks for your help and see you around. Did I say I am lovin' my coupe? Yeah! I am stylin'.

Good to have you. The way to get a head unit out is to pop the plastic ring around the shift boot off, then undo the 2 screws that are under the ashtray, then lift the wood up from the end by the armrest. Dont forget to set the parking brake, (you would have done this earlier seeing that you have a stick)duh. sorry. Then there are 1 or 2 screws that hook the head unit to a piece of metal behind and under neath it. its really easy.
I also need to know where to run wires(ill be runnin 1/0 gauge in about 2-3 weeks.) hehehehe plus 45s shouldnt rub. black on the tint, definatly and you may have a clogged filter on your ac. the filter is behind glove box. ive never done it so i cant advise. peace T |

So wood trim just attached by clips or something? It will just pop up? That's easier then I thought.
Thanks tnelson. So anyone else got answers to other questions? I really want to know how to route the cable from headunit to the trunk. Should I ask this in Audio forum? Maybe...

since you already have a ls legend you already have a stock amp in the trunk, if you are wiring low voltage from the head unit to the trunk you can just use the factory wiring. The amp is mounted on the back side of the the back seat in the trunk. Just pull out the little plastic rivits that hold the lining of the trunk on and you will be able to see the corner of the amp on the left hand side. To get to it though you have to take the rear seat apart which is relitivly easy actually. I'm doing this off the top of my head so I might forget something, but oh well. First their are a couple of bolts in the trunk that you have to undo that are on the back side of the seat. Take those out, I'm not sure how many their are. Then their are two little clips on the bottom of the rear seat in side the car that you pull out. Then you can lift the bottom of the rear seat up. Then the bolts that hold the back of the seat on are exposed and you undo those I think their are 3 or 4 and you can pull the back of the seat down from the trunk to get the two little metal lips out from the top of the back of the seat and the seat comes right out. I hope that makes sense. But from their the amp will be exposed and you can acess the wiring that goes to the amp and use that to go to the trunk from the new head unit. If you are going to run high power to the trunk then you need to take the old amp out anyways and get to the wiring that goes to the speakers that goes on the other side of the amp so you don't have to run wireing to the speakers you just use the stock wiring after the amp. The carpet also comes out very easily and you can run it through the consol to the carpet in the back to the trunk with out it being exposed. If any of that makes sense I will be amased, I think chrisk could explain it better, but I tried anyways.

it kinda makes sense. Thanks man. i have to take a look at the trunk to know what you are talking about, but I am glad to know I can use existing wiring. I have done couple installations a while ago, so it should all come back to me once i get started. Thanks cresap for your help.
So now, who knows anything about the shift knob boot situation. Can I make it not to mave around with aftermarket shift knob-without the clip that holds the boot? Aslo, I need to know wheather our piant has the clear coat on it or not. Thanks. This forum is awesome. ![]()

THe first thing you should do is buy yourself an HID kit for your car, upgrading the lights to the LESUX or MERCEDES look is sweet and you will get about 1 million more looks from people, i know i did. it is the best upgrade for the legends, trussssssttt meee. PEACE OUT and good luck pimpin.....

I suggest if you DIY alot of the work, get a Helms manual at www.helminc.com because their more descriptive than any of the other manuals out there that i've seen. Supposedly its the same manuals Honda/Acura shops use. As for the A/C, you may need to check to see if the A/C filter behind the glove box may be clogged w/ leaves and crap.

Do not waste your money on buying a Chilton's manual as it is most used for light reading when you are in the W.C. Buy the HELM which is the authorized factory manual.
The other suggestion is to carefully remove and pack the existing OEM stereo system. In the future, when you decided to sell the vehicle, you will have to have the OEM installed or be willing to sell for less. One ex-Forum member sold me his entire system and 6 months later begged for it back. Seems the dealer was going to subtract the RETAIL price of the system from the offer. This person, then had to scramble to locate the various components in order to trade-in. IMO, this level of stress isn't worth the $200-$300 a used OEM system commands (if at any given time you could locate one). |

i got lucky. i paid $10,500 for it. I found it from this board, it was located here in New England. It was an impulse buy, but i am sure it's worth it.
i think i am gonna get Helm manual, and start my project. Thanks guys.
