Radiator Tanks blew up !

My 3 week old Koyo blew up the other day. I was fortunate that it happend JUST as i pulled into the garage, so nothing ever got hot.

I have a replacment one and a new cap. All the rest of the cooling system is new too (hoses, waterpump, fans etc..). The radiator really did blow up, completely separating the bottom tank.

Before i start everything up again, is there anything else that could have caused this other than a faulty/old radiator cap? I dont want this happeneing again! The car never overheats, so thats not a problem, and all air was bled out.

I would install a new Acura OEM thermostat at this time if it hasn't been done.
No aftermarket thermostat allowed.

I absolutely agree with you on the thermostat, except that i have a brand new acura factory thermostat i put in 3 weeks ago!

I just bled the system, thermostat and fans are all working correctly. I havent driven it yet with a cap on. Local Kragen had a prestone 1.1 cap, so thats what i have. I would think that would be fine.
