Ranger's CAI Group Buy

Hello-
Please post here if you're interested in the group buy for Ranger's CAI:
http://g2legend.com/intake.htm
(click the above link for dyno too)

We're in need of at least 10 people for the group buy to be worthwhile. TCS and non-TCS versions are available.

The group buy price would be $175 including shipping. Compare at DV8's for $255 (including shipping).

If one of the moderators would make this post sticky, we'd much appreciate it.

Thanks Again,
Keith

Might have something to do with the fact that RangerJoe hydrolocked his engine...

At least its fixed though! I was going to buy his intake until I found out how easy it was to hydrolock a one piece intake (since the bypass valve requires 2 pieces).

Its a good deal on a product that looks great though!

Has anyone hydrolocked w/ DV8's 2 piece intake?

Where is Ranger fitting the bypass valve? Dang. I didn't even bother to check.

How easy is it to hydrolock? I've got his intake, and I was wondering about that. Does it mean that I can't drive in the rain? or do I just have to avoid driving through puddles? If it does lock up, how hard is it to fix? Thanks for the help.

[edit]:

I learned some more after posting that. Apparently anything causing the filter to get wet enough can damage the engine, and water splashing up on it definitely falls into that category. I think what I'll do is cut mine in half and turn it into a two piece so I can run short ram if I need to. Sealing up the compartment around the cai fairly well to keep water out is another good thing on my list. And I'd like to put the fog light covers back on. . . except I have fog lights. not sure what I'll do about that. . . .we'll see.

By the way, it seems he didn't acutally destroy his engine, luckily. Read about it here:

hydro locked engine...how to fix?

Alright, I would LOVE to get something straight. Something that I have posted MULTIPLE times.

I know why my car got waterlogged. It did not hydrolock. Hydro locked engines seize, and do not work anymore, without a complete rebuild. My car got waterlogged. Which basically means there was too much water in the cylinder, and it would not compress, so the engien dies. When you hydrolock, the same general thing happens, but instead of dying, you bend a connecting rod, because the engine is running fast at the time it happens. I was in neutral when it died. At the time, I did not have a fog light cover on (filter was plainly in sight) and I have a hole cut out of my wheel well lining (not done by me). If you have both of these things in place, WHICH YOU SHOULD...especially the fog light cover (good enough if you have fog lights on your car). If you have both parts in place, than nothing short of submerging the filter will make the car hydrolock. PM Dv8 and ask him, he will tell you the exact same thing.

Let me get another thing straight. It can rain any time, day or night, while you are driving, or when you are about to drive. If you have a two piece CAI (which I can do if requested) or a 1 piece. Having a two piece will not really help you if it starts raining while you are driving, because you cant just jump out of the car, remove the filter, and run a short ram setup instead. I could do that if I wanted to because I do not have a wheel well lining, and I dont have a fog light cover (makes it easy to remove the filter when I want). I am not trying to bash Dv8s design, or TI II's, (they use the same setup), but that is just how it works with a CAI. You are more than welcome to add a bypass valve to my kit, it does not bother me at all. On my kits, I put the bypass right near where the power steering reservoir is, and it does allow you to run a short ram setup if you want to.

If you waterlog your engine, then you can fix it very easily. You remove your spark plugs, (put some towels around your engine bay) and then put the key in the ignition, and turn the key. the engine will attempt to crank, and in the mean time, spray out any water that is in the cylinder. do this 5-6 times, or until you do not get any more water coming out, or just a light spray. make sure to clean off the spark plugs, and then put them back in there, along with the coil packs. After this, go and try to start the car. chances are it wont work the first few times, but while you turn the key, pump the gas once or twice. Do this until the car starts, waiting ~10 seconds between each time you turn the key. Also, check your muffler, chances are you will get some water coming out of there. Once the car starts, leave it running for ~45 minutes or so to make sure everything is cleaned out. then change your oil. put in something like a quaker state high mileage, or something of that nature. run the car for ~100 miles, and change the oil again to your normal brand. This is what I did, and my engine runs just the same as it did before.

And if you have any more questions, then you are more than welcome to ask me (pm or aim).

I would really love to get a group buy started also.

I already stated before in the dyno thread that I would be interested, I figure whenever the group buy is ready I will be too...so count me in for a ceramic coated one

RangerJoe as a side question lets say 10 people did put in and we got the group buy going, does the time frame of 3 weeks max still apply?

I would have to see, the day before all money is due, I will have all orders checked to make sure everything is ready. It will not take me very long to get the coatings done and all of that, so from where I see it, the 3 weeks will still apply. Once it gets started, I will have everything timed so that I can go pick up everything as soon as possible, and get things done, and shipped as soon as possible.

also just to keep things straight I thought the price was $175 shipped and $200 shipped depending on ceramic coating or not...above is stated plus shipping but in the group buy forum, it says shipped...was that just a typo or has the price changed?

ps where did all the people who were interested go?

I'm in if this goes down. I want one with a bypass, so with a groupbuy I am looking at $205?

Yes, that is correct. The bypass price will not change (for the add on that is). That is because I buy it from another person that doesnt really give me any discounts.

If you are that worried, an intake can be cut easily and evenly with a dremel. cut it and throw a bypass into it. not hard.

and phil did not hydrolock.

look, phils intake is the only one that is truly a 1 piecer, angled for the best flow. works well, sounds good. cant beat it.

RangerJoe, I'm going to be away for Christmas. Let me know where this goes over the holidays, and if you want to pay the group buy/advertising fees.
