Reliable mechanic in San Francisco

Hello, I have been having several problems with my 95 legend coupe ever since it was stollen. It has cost me over 2000 dollars so far in repairs, insurance covering very little. They say regular wear and tear, but I know that take car of my car and nothing was wrong before. Maybe they took my car out for an extreme joyride over the hill of San Francisco

So, without crying about it, I have been taking my car to the delarship and it costing me a lot. Does anyone know a great mechanic for our cars in San Francisco. I want good parts and work. A few things needed are: New CV joints, new radiator, new tranny mount, thermostat, and I hope that is it. I have done what I can on my own and with this forum as a huge help. But I don't have a garage and it sucks to do work on these hills. Anyone know anyone????????????????????

Go here: http://www.hilltopautoservice.com/ Don is really good and they only work on Acuras. Took my 95 Legend to get a timing belt water pump and all belts changed. They did a really good job, he even fixed a dent I had on my fender for free!

I live in the Richmond district by seacliff. Parked my car and locked it up. Everything on it is stock. Nothing special. It didn't think anyone would want to take it. But they did. Weird but no sign of breaking and entering. They just took my rims and tires and left it on its rotors. Well, I didn't think stock legend rims were so wanted. I think that they towed it. I know I locked it up good. Maybe they had a master key. Anyways thanks for the tip on the shop and I will check it out. I have my car at the dealership tommorrow for some fluid changes and then I will look up that mechanic.

About meeting for some shared info on our cars, sounds cool to me. Just keep me posted on it for the mini-meet.

Acura of Serramonte Will Bleed You Dry

I was at Acura of Serramonte's new palace this week and was glad I made it out of there without dropping a few hundred dollars. I was having a hard starting problem that progressed to a no-start problem at the Best Buy parking lot in Colma. Did a little online reading and replaced the FI Main Relay on Tuesday, but that wasn't it, so had it towed to Acura of Serramonte. Acura of Serramonte wanted an upfront $150 diagnostic fee, then a labor rate of $125/hour plus parts, problem "unknown". I asked Henry Eng if it might be the ignition switch. He says "No".

I went back there the next day and swapped out the electrical part of the ignition switch in 20 minutes, and it started right up. The lack of dash warning lights in the "On" (position II), yet ability to rev car in the "Start" position, and the car dying when the key goes back to "On" was symptomatic of a bad ignition switch -- bad contacts in the "On" position.

I did some price shopping and Mike Harvey Acura in Burlingame was cheaper for both the FI Main Relay and the electrical part of the ignition switch by about 15%. I'm not sure what the labor rate at Mike Harvey Acura is, but it's $125/hour for Acura of Serramonte, and $87/hr at Hill Top Auto Service www.hilltopautoservice.com I'm definitely going to give Hill Top a try.

Sunnyside Acura of New Hampshire at http://www.acuraparts247.com has really great prices, no sales tax, 10% added for shipping.

Here's what a little price comparison shopping can do:
Prices are for the electrical part of the ignition switch, Part No. 35130-SP0-305

Acura of Serramonte $81.70
Mike Harvey Acura $71.54
European Automotive $56.12 http://www.europeanautomotive.com
Sunnyside Acura $50.20 http://www.acuraparts247.com
