Replacing a broken front wheel stud.

Due to reasons i wont get into here, I need to replace a rt front wheel stud. Is this something better left to a pro or...................?

Also are there any of you in the Fort Worth Texas area that can recommend a honest shop/mechanic to do it for me?

Thanks to any and all that reply.

It's a pretty easy job (Although rear wheel studs are much easier)... let me guess, you're either using spacers for un-bored wheels or simply using wheels that don't quite fit?

Oh no no no, I am not quite that cheezy.

Bought this car 2 weeks ago and had to immediatly change the wheels.

Then i noticed the rt front getting HOT and sure nuff the caliper was stuck so i went to install new one last night and the #@!* cheap ass locking lug nuts and "key" laid down on me. My guess was that the place that balanced my wheels put the lugs on too tight and the key wouldnt hold well enough to loosen so.......one lug was destroyed. I got a new stud and just need some advice on reparing it. I normally do everything myself from my Truck to my bikes but this car is all new to me.

Ive never owned a FWD car before.

help?

take off the wheel hub off next

make sure you also replace the bearings.

put the new studs in

put the rotors back on and use a wheel with a spare lug nug to seat the wheel studs.

take off the wheels to ensure that all the studs have been seated.

OK thanks. Next question is....whats the procedure for removing the hub itself?

I really appreciate the time and effort youre spending helping me.

To replace a front wheel stud, the hub must be separated from the knuckle. Acura recommends a new wheel bearing when the two are disassembled. You also need a new axle nut. If you are not careful re the ball joint, you could damage the boot. The boot uses a C-clip. You need to use a press to separate the hub/knuckle, and more importantly, to reinstall the new wheel bearing.

In answer to how to proceed: On this site is a HELM Service Manual from which you may download the applicable page. If you wish to perform your own DIY repairs, you need to become very familiar with the online version, or better yet, buy a papercopy of the HELM from www.helminc.com.
