Responsive to mods
ok, heres the dealy yo. my family has 2 legends. i have an L sedan, my mom liked mine so pops bought her a gs. anyway. me and my little bro who is 17 raced em when we first got em. and the gs won. not by much tho, maybe 2 or 3 cars to 100.
anyway. my only straight line performance mods are cai and exaust (y - pipe back, 2.5, no cat). i finally came home from school and work for the 4th, and me and my bro went a raced em again. i had it by bout 6 or 7 car lengths easy. i pulled hard in 1 and 2 and he hung in 3, cuz of better gearing on the gs. anyway. just lettin you know, legends take mods much better than smaller rice burners. with a few basic mods, you can have a quick legend. (my exuast cost me 115 total, and intake was 89 for short ram plus 6.75 for the stuff to make it a cai. so like 200 bux and i have a pretty fast legend. also i do have 2 12s and a box and amp in the back, so that slowed mine down some, but i still walked on the GS no prob. both cars have 101XXX on them and the gs is a year newer. peace T |

re:responsive to mods
Is your car an automatic or 5-speed? Unless your brother didn't
shift well that day, your cai and exhaust (y - pipe back, 2.5, no cat) should still not able to beat a GS. It has 30 more hp in stock form and your performance upgrades probably yields another 10-15 hp. |

in answer to your question, both cars are auto, and i taught him how to launch it. he does well, but its not the launch that got him, i just walked on him.
christian, i have the stock y pipe still on, but from that flange back, it is all 2.5 inch. hmmmm....cruising, its not that loud. and high in the revs its not loud, but 1600-3000, when accelerating, its annoyingly loud. i wish it was quieter, more of a sleeper effect. peace T |

I know what you're talking about, the biggest immediate gains come from simple intake/exhaust. With my simple 2.5" y-back exhaust and custom CAI, I consistently chirp the rubber HARD going 1st to 2nd. When I first had these mods done, I was at a stoplight on a 3-lane 1-way, slight upward incline, friends on either side, one looks over and gestures for me to smoke the tires. I stomp and roasted the tires good, thick white smoke rolling out from the fenders. I swear I caught fine gravel but went back to the intersection and found nothing but two jet black streaks on the concrete. I loved the expression on my friends' face:
Factory components are extremely restrictive, just look at the stock muffler....the 36 chambers are in my CD player, not on the exhaust. Wu-Wu-Wu Tang! lol |

yes the Type I Legend can beat a GS with a few GOOD mods. the Type I has torque, and as much as you want to not admit it, torque is what wins races. so i can believe Possibly that Tyler "ran" the GS especially since its stock (remember the sedans have shorter gearing which aid in economy but hurt acceleration).
EDIT: WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!! i meant Sedans have TALLER gearing...sorry for my confussion!

you said that you had 2.5 inch pipe put in. what is stock on the sedan? i drive a coupe, and when i went to put a new exaust on it, i discovered that there was already 2.5 under the car. i don't know if this is a difference between the sedan and coupes or if the previous owner did this. any thoughts? btw without your cat conv. can you still pass emissions?

I've been in a TypeI before, it seems to lack severely at the high end compared to the GS. I'm sure a few mods on a TypeI can help it catch up to and hang with a GS. But if the GS was mod-ed as well, you'd be looking at that edge over the TypeI again. I think the gap will grow even wider, if you throw in a couple of Bayou ECUs into the mix.

a gs moded will again be the top dawg. the Torque for the Type I plus nominal weight advantage will make for a good low speed drag race BUT like you said on the high ways tryin to pass a GS will not get you very far (stock for stock) mod I for stock II the GS is going to be in a slight disadvantageous position. (im speaking generally not directly to you FutureX...some people think im tryin to cut them down when i just cant stop talking .)being that torque gets you moving at any speed cruising at 30mph, punch it thats torque. cruising at 70mph punch it thats torque. but full throttle after 2 seconds or so would be hp and Torque. gearchange, torque...then it would be hp and torque again.I'm a torque head, but it's odd that i dont like domestics. I'm a stickler for efficiency so i guess that gets me:p everything i like in cars says Doemstic, but i dont like them . BIG, powerful, torque monsters with more luxury than a "little bit"...i can name 4 or 5 muscle cars that are the epitome of that .torque and horsepower play important parts in the drivetrain in which the rotating gets most importants that means Torque also plays a VERY important part. IMO, torque is undervalued in media, Carol Shelby-"hp sells cars, torque wins races" i love that saying.Edit: the Torque difference is Not applicable (almost) but the delivery is the Type II makes its 206 much high than the Type I makes its 210. so that could also help the acceleration in a low speed battle, but like i said, i think an 3.5RL will snatch the lead from a Type II in a drag race but the Type II will grab it back after HP takes effect. BTW thats Auto vs. Auto
