Seatbelts

I just bought a 94 Legend L (after trading in my 90 L w/175,000 miles) both of my front seatbelts are not working. The dealer I bought it from says it probaby a faulty relay, but I dont have the time to let them take a look at it. Plus I am tired of going back and forth with him.

Is this something that I can get the dealer to look at or fix for less than 100.00 or is that a pipe dream? I hear acuras have a lifetime seatbelt warranty - no matter the year of the car or who bought it first.

Maybe someone here and help me.

PS - can I put an amp on the bose system that is already in the car. I put in new 6X9's, sounds good. Can I add an amp and subwoofers to the already existing radio (I have an L so my amp is not seperate, its on the head unit).

Let me know.

Are the automatic belt retractors not working or the entire seat belt is not buckling?

IF it is the latter, the seat belts are under lifetime warranty...just look in the manual.

Seatbelt

Neither seatbelt will work, I cannot bring them forward to use them. They are both locked.

I got out of a ticket because I still have the temporary registration sticker in the window and I explained to the cop that i just bought the car and that I am getting the dealer to fix them under NYS lemon law. He smiled, and let me go, but said that that story wont work after oct 31 and said to make sure I get them fixed (I also am missing a rear view mirror).

Lifetime warranty on the seatbelts?

It sounds like they are locked in place because the seatbelt tensioners have deployed as the result of an accident at some point. If this is the case then you would not be able to get them replaced under warranty.

Accident

You know, I was wondering if that was the case with my car. I got it from a non acura dealer. but when I check out the car - there were a lot of new parts under the front end - drive shafts, control arms, etc... - at first I just chucked it up to steam cleaning - you know a dealer will clean it and make it shiny

I was thinking, since it has such low miles, that is was involved in an accident and then the person decided to sell it once it got fixed. I had a friend who had a eclass benz and it got smashed. Once he got it back, he lost interest, it didnt feel the same so he sold it and got something else.

If I explain to them I dont know the history as far as an accident, but couldnt they make an acception, because of new yorks low tolorence for not having a seatbelt? Is worth a try.

Also, is it something that I can replace myself with the right manuel and instructions and such? Everytime I talk to the dealer its, 300 or this or 400 for that or 500 for this. Geezz.

Carfax

You really need to run a "CARFAX" on this vehicle and see what the history is.

An Acura dealer should fix the seatbelt under warranty if they are locked-up. It's worth a try anyway. If not go back to the seller and explain the seat belt law and have them repair the problem.

Good Luck

Seatbelts

Yeah, I am in the process of getting the dealer I bought it from to fix it for me, but I wanted to avoid the hassle of all of that.

New York State Lemon Law - anybody registered as a auto seller in NYS must comply with what is essentially and automatic 30 to 90 day (depending on mileage of the car) warranty - whether they tell you about it or not, its automatic if the guy selling is a licensed car seller (not so for private sales).

He has to fix all safety issues - so he is going to fix my belt, but you get the -well the mechanic is not here, or we ordered the wrong part and such. But I am a big black guy (6'2" - 350) and I have big black friends. We are not thugs, or a hoodlums or anything like that - but I can sure give the impression that I am when I need to. This weekend, I am going take a ride over there with them in my friend Escalade with 20's and just have them stand there while I explain the virtues of the Lemon Law and there role in accomodating me. Got me out of alot of situations. True story, a friend bought a Acura Vigor (horrible car) adn this sleazy guy working from his back yard didnt want to give his money back. We paid a visit - It was a Expedition then with 18's, loud music and such. Guy thought we were going to beat him up. Gave the guy his money back. True story. Although it could have backfired - you know cops and all, but has worked so far.
