Seriously lookin at getting a legend, any advise.

My roomate a few years ago had a 91 Legend. The car drove great, he just abused his. But I used it to drive to from FL to NC 2x and it was a great ride especially for a car that was 14 years old (at that time). Well I moved and sold my old beater and now I need a car for me. After much debate I decided I want a Legend. I would like a second gen 4 door, leather and a sunroof. I have about $4k to spend. Any suggestions on what to look out for? Any years better then the other?
Thanks all

i was in the same position as you, with the same budget as well

if if you have 4 grand to spend, set your budget cap at 3500 and use the extra 500 to cushion for taxes and any minor maitenance. at your budget range your most likely gooing to find a legend with 100k+, so make sure the timing belt and water pump have been replaced

also if you want a sunroof and leather you need to get a 93+ or if you get a 91-92 it has to be a LS. i belive the 91-92 L sedans did not come with sunroof or leather...correct me if im wrong though

yea just make sure the timing belt water pump hsa been replaced. also take it on the hightway or at highway speeds then park it adn let it idle dfor a while adn watch the temperature gauge. if it shoots up then that means bad head gasket and a no no.

Absolutely: do this first before buying a car, warm it up completely and let it sit idling for a while to see if there's any air in the cooling system, which will make temp needle shoot way up. Also check for any smoke, any smoke means don't buy it. If it heats up, it means it has air the system, which could be a number of things, but could be a bhg, which means, don't get it.

make sure to look into those mainternace record. and listen to what he said.

Oh the L does come with leather and sunroof because my dad used to had a 92 L. Legend doesn't have sunroof and leather ussually are std model but most of them also have sunroof. I just saw a few Legend doesn't have sunroof and they are std model. some L model doesn't have leather some time too.

Actually, due to age alone, ALL Legends should've had a new timing belt and water pump installed whether it have more than 90k miles on it or not!

The recommended replacement duration is 90k miles or 7.5 years - whichever comes first - which means every single Legend on the road right now *should've* had the belt replaced.

That said, it's no big deal to have it done if it hasn't been yet - it's just pricey. Expect ~$1500 for new drive belts, water pump, spark plugs, etc. Hoses and fluids should also be checked and flushed if they haven't been done recently. Just keep it in mind when you make your offer - odds are high that if the other things you've been told to look for check out, it doesn't have to be done right away, but probably the sooner the better.

I would pay for 5 k if the car condition is good and he had all the mainternace record.
