Angry Shaking while accelerating

ok guys this problem has been happening for about a week.
It seems like the front of my car shakes only when I accelerate and have it on drive (auto). If I have it on cruise control and don't accelerate, it won't vibrate. It won't vibrate either if I throw it in neutral. I thought my tires were low but that wasn't the problem. and I haven't hit any curves or potholes so my alignment is ok. Any ideas before I take it in?

Vibration between a set range of speeds is usually an off-balance wheel. Try balancing your wheels.

This would have been the simplest fix. Believe me it isn't it.....differernt type of vibration, and whels have been balanced 3 times since I noticed....

Well you can get a rebuilt one for about $45-60 with a trade in of your old one. A new one is about $150, I believe. I would buy a new one though, because I went through THREE remanufactured units, before I bought a new one that finally worked.

These prices are for the part only. I'm guessing labor would be $100-150??

Important lesson learned about changing CV joints.

I had a vibration, not while accelerating, that turned out not to be a CV joint problem. I had heard it was easy to get a bad rebuild CV joint, so I took my car to the dealer for analysis and repair.

The dealer told me that their analysis indicated that I had two bad CV joints and the cost for repair was $730. They replaced the CV joints – both sides with a rebuilt set, but the car then vibrated worse. The dealer installed a second set of CV joints and the car was even worse. So they put my original CV joints back in and charged me $400 for fixing the vibration. The vibration is gone, but they wouldn’t tell me what they did to fix it. Obviously they had planned to replace my good CV joints knowing they were good.

The lesson is that it is very easy to get bad “rebuilt” CV joints.

Oh man..... Don't get me started on this subject again...

I went through the same problem you guys are experiancing about 2 months ago. A bad vibration comeing from the front of the car, usually at higher speeds and only under moderate to heavy acceleration. It is your CV joints I am about 98% sure of this.

By the time I figured the whole mess out I replaced the CV joint twice, a wheel hub bearing, upper and lower ball joints. Costly to say the least.

And if you do decided to replace it with a re-manufactured unit, be carefull, like I said the first re-manufactured unit I got was crap, it did the same thing as my bad CV on my car and thats when I decided to replace the other things that most likely had nothing wrong with them in the first place.....

My advice is this....... Try to determine which CV it is first. (so you don't replace a good CV) Then buy a new CV from your local Acura dealer. If you can't afford a new one, get a re-manufactured unit and make sure that it works and works properly when you put it in. If it still has that vibration after you put in the re-manufactured unit, Replace that with another re-manufactured one untill the problem is solved.

Hope this helps you guys out!!

The CV Boot is the rubber around the CV joints. There is grease inside the boot that helps the CV joint stay lubricated. Many times the CV Boot will rip, some tear completely into two. Then air (as you drive) and dirt get passed the boot because it's torn and into the CV Joint. Grease will also leak out of the boot as you drive. The end result is a drying/dirty CV Joint over time, which will eventually cause it to fail.
