Southern California, Head Gasket Repair (LA/OC/Riverside/San Bernadino) ?

Hey everyone, hoping someone can direct me to a good shop. I basically need my HeadGaskets replaced, the heads should be fine, hasn't overheated- but I think they always send it to a machine shop anyways-Valve Stem seals need to be replaced too.

Timing Belt/Water pump not needed as they are NEW (changed them last month).

I was quoted $2000 just for HeadGaskets. $2400 for a complete overhaul (I don't think I need one- just the valve steam seals motor pulls fine, powerful).

THANKS

This is not directly a double post; but I talk about my BHG here:
Confirmed: Bad Headgasket

I say get a quote on having your heads port and polished, etc. Don't say the phrase "blown headgasket".

BTW, EvolutionRacewerks in Baldwin Park did my engine swap for me. They can pull the heads, clean em up, p&p, etc, and put em back on right. I suggest you have them replace all the rubber hoses they can reach while the heads are off too.

well - ask a shop to repair a bad headgasket an they quote you $2gs. Ask a shop to P&P your heads and the gaskets will get replaced anyway, but it may not be $2gs.

for example, Brian (who did some great work for me with my Prelude), runs prospeed:
New Page 1

$899 for P&P including disassembly and re-assembly. Maybe more for your V6. Who knows?

Ask him.

I sent a request to Prospeed for more info - you can send the same request to Evolution (linked above).

I sent off a similar request to Evolution. I basically asked them for a price quote on

1.) Port N Polish of the heads; and inquired if they replace any relevant seals or gaskets after the job.

And

2.) Port N Polish of the heads + a 3 angle valve job. With the same question as above.

Stupid question but one worth asking I think...

If you take it to a guy and ask for a p&p, they may or may not check to see if the head is slightly warped and needs to be planed down some...maybe you could also throw that out there that you like the "heads shaved" as well

Great idea Aaron!

lol, i was being sarcastic. but the monitor, i'm sure, didn't relay that to ya.

why do the legends burn up their HG's so easily??
is it somethign to do with the engine coolant porting or is it to do with all the little sensors and stuff around the engine that take coolant flow away from the engine?

I don't think anyone really knows, some people say maintainance. I take care of my cars quite a bit. The Coupe didn't have many miles already on her when I got it... I'd say flush the coolant every 2 years or 24,000 miles. Often overlooked by many. The entire system seems to run pretty hot. Unless I'm mistaken it's always Cyl#6 or quite often.

I mainly feel it's a design flaw- a weak spot in the HG design. I don't recall many 3.5L (RLs) with the same problem; the only thing I know of that was added is a Harmonic Balancer.
