Switching rearview mirrors...

Do you all think it would be possible to add a rearview mirror like the one in my TL? It has the auto dim feature and all it needs is a power wire connected to an accessory line and a ground...here are some pics!

By the way I can buy a brand new one at the dealer for only 70 bucks!! The only problem I can think of would be mounting the new base to our windshield...

sure, all you need is that rearview mirror adhesive and be at least a minimum of electrically adequate (if it is a wiring harness, you will have to splice it).

I say go for it

That seems like a good idea. If the general consensus is that it will work, would it be possible to install a Homelink 3-button garage system into our sun visors?

What do you all think?

i am not one to say which is a more superior product since I've never messed w/ a TL mirror. I am also a member on a forum that deals with honda odysseys (my wife's van). Most people that are into modding their Ody's have done the swap to a Donnely mirror and have raved about it. The only prob is that they're $300, so if you can afford that cash then you can't lose.

I don't think our visors our thick enough to install a homelink. The homelink is more than just the buttons. You would have to buy visor's with the homelink built in or be prepared to do some major modding of your visor. Here's a shot of the homelink. The pic will only be good for another 2 days...its off of ebay.

Absolutely because I did it. I bought a Donnelly temp/compass/auto-dim mirror off e-Bay for $120 and wired it myself. Not hard at all. Be sure to go by an auto glass place and have them remove your OEM mirror and glue the proper size metal "button" on the windshield because the OEM mount will not work with the Donnelly. Not sure about a GENTEX mirror. BTW, GENTEX does make a mirror that has HomeLink circuitry built in but it's about a $400 item. Later---
