Tire wear questions

My rear tires tend to be wearing out on the edges.Drivers side on the outer and passenger side inner. They are cupping. The front tires are OK. Any ideas on how to fix this? Do I need new rear shocks? Thanks, J.J.

Inner is too much negative camber. Outer is too positive. Cupping is balance or worn shocks. Camber is also changed by amt. of load. Tell the elephant in the trunk to sit in the middle or he has to leave.

You don't typically find either side so far off unless a suspension part(s) is worn or damaged. Is the vehicle new to you? Could it have experienced a collision? If the rear was really hit, it could throw the specs off if it wasn't repaired properly. Or whoever performed the last alignment was a bona fide idiot and you ended up with camber settings way off.

A proper alignment will check condition of shocks, steering and also suspension parts. You should be able to see if the rear shocks are leaking and thus in need of replacement.

get tires balanced as that is primary cause of cupping unless shocks are gone, unlikely unless we are talking 300,000 mile Legend here.

Get car aligned at reputable shop and ask them to check the suspension components for wear. If you don't like what you hear, get a second opinion.

If the rims are other than standard acura, make sure they are seating properly. One fellow found that his center rings on after market (like hub cap) were keeping rims from sitting flush. Torque wheels and run tire pressure on nose. 32 front, 30 rear. If yo don't have a good 1% gauge, spend $45 and get one.
