TL type S wheels

So I brought my TL type S wheels to a Machine Shop today, but I wanted to confirm the amount that should be bored out. I'm supposed to let them know by tomorrow afternoon so if ya’ll could get back to me ASAP I’d appreciate it. Thanks

Also for anyone that has done this on their legend (I know there are a few of you) will I still be able to use the center cap with the Acura logo after the shop is through, or will the whole be too large?

hi
I had my RSX Type S wheels bored out to 70.1mm. which worked perfectly (except I had to shave the brake calipers a little). Also the 'bore'ing is done in the rear of the wheel which does not affect the center cap in the front. Someone else should confirm the 70.1mm as I am going from memory 9 months ago - or else you can search the forum, which is where I found it.

Good luck

Chris

Thanks...

Also does anyone know a good shop in the Frisco area to bring them to I’m starting to feel a little skeptical about the one I’m about to use.

hey bo - i just had a set done up here in petaluma (near santa rosa) a couple of months ago, and the shop did an *awesome* job. it only cost me $85, and i have seen a bunch of other people getting charged ~$120. i had mine bored out to 70.1mm to begin with, but they didn't fit correctly. a bunch of people will tell you that 70.1mm will work, but it did not for me. in the end, i had them bored out to 70.2mm, and a depth of .5inches (that's one-half inch). let me know if you have any other questions, and also if you'd like to bring your wheels up to the shop up here to get them done. by the way, the way i found this shop was by calling around to about 30 different machine shops in my area. only about three did the kind of work i wanted done, but i asked all 30 of them which shop they would recommend to do the work. probably 15 of them recommended this place to me, and they have been in business since the '50's or so. in other words, not only have been around for quite a while, but they also have a good reputation amongst their competition. maybe this is also another way for you to find a good shop in the city. hope this helped...

I had mine bored out to 70.1mm as well and it works perfect.

Also, take a look at your hub on your Legend. Notice how deep the hub lip is? When you have your shop bore out the TL-S rims, have them only go a little deeper than that hub lip on the Legend. They don't have to do all the way through, just enough to clear. This way you remove as little mass as possible.

new - the suspension setup in that pic was actually too low for me, and i did have some slight rubbing problems with it and the tl-s wheels. in that picture, i had suspension techniques springs with stock shocks, which ended up lowering a good 2-2.5 inches. i have since put on koni's with h&r springs, which only puts me ~1.5 inches lower than stock now, and i have no rubbing problems any more. i have taken some more current pictures, but unfortunately, i haven't resized and posted them up yet. as for the wheels, the only mod i had to do to them was to get them bored out. once that was done, they bolted right up with no problems. let me know if you need any more info.

thanks for the info wally, i have a couple more questions

are the tl and cl type s rims the same because they look very similar to me but i'm not sure

how much should i expect to pay for a very good/near mint set of type s rims?

i'm probably gonna have to wait a little while before i do both the rims and suspension because i recently bought my car, so would the gap look funny with the rims on without suspension, or should i do suspension first, or wait and do both at the same time? the reason i ask is because i hate my stock rims and really want to change them but i don't want a goofy looking gap until i can get the suspension.

thanks again for all the help

new - i have heard people try to describe the difference between the cl-s and tl-s wheels, but i have never seen the difference in person. if you do a search, i am pretty sure there was a thread in the last week or so that tried to lay out the differences. i ended up buying the tl-s wheels, because i got what i thought was a good deal on a set. i bought them in *mint* condition for $800 with tires that only had 7k miles. fortunately, i didn't have to pay shipping because the guy was close enough for me to drive and pick them up. as for whether to do wheels and suspension together or one or the other first, i think it is all personal preference. if you were to put on a set of tl-s wheels first, in my opinion, it would look just fine, and then bee that much better when you did eventually get around to doing the suspension. like i said, though, it is all up to you. as long as you like it, that is all that counts. let me know if you have any more questions...

I have seen the TLS and CLS side by side and their is a def noticable diff. Ths TLS imo is a plainer looking wheel. The CLS spokes protrude a little and do not have the lip that the TLS do. The CLS are 17x 7.0 while the TLS are 17x6.5. Also the finish on the wheels appeared to be diff. The CLS have more of a two-tone look. If you have a choice go with the CLS

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your help, I had the wheels bored out to 70.1mm with a depth of .5" and put a set of Sumitomo HTRZ II 225/45/17's. They look great and ride even better, thanks again for the advice.
