Type II cluster in Type I Coupe

I'm trying to determine if the speedometer will be correct or not if I swap a Type II gauge cluster into my Type I coupe. I realize the Type II goes up to 160 mph and the increments are spaced differently on the speedo vs the Type I. Just wondering if anyone has actually tried it and can tell me if it will be off or not. I would think that the speed sensor output from the ecu to the cluster would be the same at a given mph in both Type I and II and the circuit boards in each cluster would convert the signal according to the gauge being used. In other words, I'm thinking it would work ok but would rather hear from anyone who has successfully tried it before I buy a used cluster. Any input is appreciated.

id do a search but i c wut u are saying and i think that if the gauge (type 2 with type 2 numbers (that go up to 160)) it self is getting a reading of 50 mph then it will show 50 but if u have a type 1 guage with the type 2 number then it will be offf

I was wondering the samething because if you think about poeple do the type2 enginge swap and change the ecu, but they still have the 140 gauges. So I am quessing that it would work because you never hear anybody needing to swap out the gauges. I don't know why people don't do it I think they look beter then the 140 anyways. Try it

you may need the type 2 ECU to go along with it...not sure though.

My mechanic put a Type II cluster in my 94 Legend LS Type I. The miles rolled perfectly for 68 miles and then the total miles(on the tach gauge) and the miles counter on the speedometer stopped counting.

Is there a way to get the miles on both gauges to start counting again?

I would appreciate your help. Thank you.

It is odometer/trip meter is mechanical and something "fixable" might have broken. Hopefully you still have your old cluster, if you do you can just swap that piece from your old one to the new one. There are shops that work on odometers but it would cost more to try to fix then you to pick up another cluster.

*1. I have modified numerous clusters, just swap in your original unit.
