Car 1: 1994 Legend Coupe

Weird exhaust leak question *FIXED***

the car is a 94 ls coupe, type II. When I crack the windows or open the sunroof I can slightly smell exhaust coming in. Not alot, but enough to notice.
I took it to the shop, and the mechanics said they couldn't find a single leak. They were pretty impressed being the car has 216,000 miles on it, and the exhaust was solid. Myself and them decided it might just be the cars ahead of me on the road.
I was working on it tonight and found that I could smell exhaust slightly while the car was running around the drivers side top of the engine, just under the fuel rail covers where the injectors are. I thought manifold gasket but that was checked, besides, I couldn't smell anything above the manifold, just right over the injectors in the middle.
Any ideas........... could the injector o-rings be letting exhaust past?

maybe its not a leak but the exhaust smog from the rear itself.

Yeah, I am almost positive its coming from the spot on top of the engine, or maybe an overlooked header leak, Im not sure.. By the way, I think I can hear a air leaking from the same area, kindof a spraying sound that goes with the engine... I'm stumped?

try using the trottle cable to accelerate the engine slightly to see if u see exhaust gases, and also try snapping the throttle to see if u can hear a louder leaking sound when engine speed declines from higher rpms

what i did with my car was wait till it was really cold out and started it up so the exhaust steamed so i could see where it was coming from this might help you?

yea no cash has a good idea about the cold start. Check your PCV lines and make sure they're all clamped tight and I would also clean the EGR (there is a DIY I believe) and make sure those lines are all tight too. AFAIK those would be the two most common parts on the top of the engine bay where your problem might occur. Are you losing oil at all? Try starting the motor cold with the fuel rail covers off and see if you can see anything.

I found the problem, one of the spark plugs was loose, allowing the exhaust to come out the spark plug hole, hence why I heard the sound of air excaping. Runs better too. Thanks for the replies.....

I have only had the car 2 1/2 months, so it must have been from the previous owner. It was about 1 to 1 1/2 turns loose. I don't know if maybe it just worked its way loose or what...

Suprisingly it wasn't that bad, I have been averaging around 20-24 mpg. Hopefully I will see an improvement now.
