if its an auto it could be the parking brake on the transmission, i dont think cv joints would have anything to do with it.

the only reason your car would move is if you have a bad axel or your transmission brake wouldnt engage. I thought if it was a bad cv joint it would click really bad if they were bad.

its not that its rolling down hills or anything, its just that my car started making horrible noises and i think it was my cv axels, but my mechanic said my transimission was broken because when he put it in park he could still move in foward and backward so i want to know if whats causing it, is my transmission or something else, hopefully just broken axels cause this...

I agree, parking pawl - if you can move the car more than a couple of inches forward or backwards. Normally, an auto tranny car can rock in both directions before the parking pawl stops it from going further, when it is in park. You might hear a machine gun type of sound if it moves, also - that would be the parking pawl clicking along the teeth of the flywheel. (The parking pawl is the transmission brake, or parking brake in the tranny.)

If the axel broke the car wouldn't move forward. The differential would put all the power into the broken axel.

It's gotta be the parking pawl in the auto tranny.

how does that break, and does it require replacing the whole transmission. im thinking that maybe my axels failed in some way which caused the noise and since the axels go into the transmission they messed up the parking pawl, i really dont know now, i should just take it to the dealer or something

i hear its connected to ur tranny housing. so u dont nessisarly(sp)have to replace the whole tranny but just the tranny cover ya read? but if u do that ur best of switching trannies, do i smell 6 speed swap!??!? another thing, have u been putting ur car in park while its moving or on a hill or anywhere, where it will roll forward or backward with out ur parking brake on? if so that will cause it mess up
