Question when to change timing belt 95 Legend

Hey all. Have a 95 Legend LS with 76000. Just wondering when you'll are changing the timing belt. Have a mechanic friend at Acura that says 90K or 10 years, which ever comes first. Out of the blue last winter, the head gasket blew, but otherwise the car has run like a champ. thanks for your imput.

Confirm the 6 years/90k, whichever is first. I did mine at 63k about 9 months ago, just for peace of mind. One member here recently did his first change on a 91 I believe at around 112k with no problems. Its up to you if you want to risk it.

Please tell me who ever repaired your BHG replaced the timing belt and water pump at that time. If they didn't it's just plain stupid

They had everything apart, it would have only cost you price of the parts and you would have been good for another 90K.

Fair enough, but it's possible that someone could decide to save the $2-300 on parts and not have to worry about it for 30-40k - possibly two or three years.

If I was forking out over $2400 on a proper Head/Valve Job (oh wait, I just did ) - I might have a hard time throwing another 3 hun for a tbelt/waterpump/idlers etc....with only 60-65k miles on the car. I usually run my tbelts to 100k - but that's just me - and I don't think I'm stupid.

All that said, a good mechanic should bring up the issue - if not recommend it.

By not replacing these two items save $50 T/B and $250 for W/P. Since it's 10 yrs old it should be changed now, but let's say he drives it 14k more miles(approx 1yr.) and has it changed. Cost $750 parts and labor at a good shop. $500 at some shops.
He saves $300 now to spend $500-$750 1 yr later. A $200-$450 bad decision. But like you said it's his money and his decision, just not wise. Maybe he is going to hit the lottery next year.

Hey, thanks for all of your thoughts and rec. The dealer changed the HG. They did a good job, but 2 months later, the car started to bump and studder on the freeway. It took them 400.00 to find out that the cutch plate (what every you call it) was loose and probably not attached well and popped off. They wanted me to put a new trans in for 3K. I said "screw you" and split. The car runs fine over 1500 miles since that episode. They never once mentioned changing the TB and W/P until it was all done. I used to think they were an honest dealer. Not anymore.
Do you all flush the trans at 15K intervals? That was what they tried to say caused the trans failure, since the last time I did it was around 32K miles ago.

Acura reccomends a drain and refill every 30K. That's not a flush, it's just a drain and refill that only requires about 3 qts. I highly suggest a drain and refill with Acura transmission fluid every 30K. Acura fluid only. This is an easy DIY.

I am reluctant to do a flush on mine, I'm afraid it will cause problems by breaking loose residue that is better off left where it is at.
My 92 had 265K on it with just the 30K drain and refill.
