Red face Will an Auto Tranny from 96 RL direct-fit a 94 Legend GS??

I have a 94 Legend GS, Auto-tranny, which is slipping/hard-shifts on 1st and 2nd, did the tranny fluid change w/Honda brand fluid, cleaned the screened-filter which helped little bit but still about same. I went ahead and took it to a tranny shop and was told will need the tranny rebuilt or slap another one. I'm curious if by getting a tranny from like a 96-97 RL will have a better tranny, cause from what I have been reading here in this forum, Legend 's transmissions have a bad rep of breaking down. So Long story short, Is it worth while getting an RL Tranny put in and if so will it direct-fit my Legend??
Ok, one more question, haha, Anyone trusts or have purchased a tranny from those sellers on ebay,?? They claim lowish mileage trannys from Japan, etc..etc. Comments/Suggestions are Well appreciated, Thanks!

nope, stick with the type2 transmission off any type2 legend, coupe or sedan.

When it is shifting firm and hard, that is normal for a Legend automatic. I always thought the GS was a manual transmission. My 1995 slipped some until I replaced the fluid twice and the screen. About 100 city miles after the 2nd change it was normal. It took a little time for the clutch packs to deglaze themselves. Fortunately the dealer's service here told me that would be the normal behavior. I now have 60,000 more miles on the car and the trans is solid.

The RL trans has different gearing. The Trans computer is built into the engine computer. The transmission computer is programmed for the legend transmission gearing. You cant change it or the programming to the RL trans computer, so therefore i would not recommend using the RL transmission.

Contrary to your statement, I'd have to say the Legend auto trans is one of the toughest made by Honda. Just get another Legend trans and install.

+1

not to mention the 4spd auto in the RL is a direct descendant of the 4spd auto in the Legend, which, like sr5guy, stated is one the toughest made by Honda.

the shift from 1 to 2 is always hard on the autos, its just natural on the legend, mines feels real bad when done, just always shift from 1 to D3
