Screen displays active latitude, longitude and altitude above sea level. If disc is reloaded inital screen shot of the world from space appears and then reverts to the static screen described. Disc is ver 4.56A. Nav button is inacive. No map display can be brought up.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Talked to Alpine and sales person told me discs wear out. Don't know if I buy that.

Talked to the dealer and was unsuccessful at connecting with anyone who could offer any help.

Nav unit is communicating with satellite so it is not totally dead.

Sounds like a disc issue to me also. Did you try rebooting the unit?

Found out non-problem. I have "base" model. Has the screen, has the Nav button and has the nav CD "player" in the trunk. Base models do not have Nav, just a compass, lat, long and altitude.

These cars are intended for islands like HI or PR or landlocked cities like Juneau where the road system is small and nav is inconsequential. The base model also does not have rear view camera or adaptive cruise control.
