^ I aree that it should be stretched to be larger than the Accord/TL.

The only Legend that pulled off the luxo look with tranverse engine was the G1 Legend. Because of it's square 80's shape it didn't have a huge front overhang and cab forward design.

If you say Hyundai Flagship, i think Azera

If you say Volvo Flagship, I think S80

Every company has a flagship...Not every company has a Q-ship.

Lexus' Flagship is the LSwhatever, Mercedes is the S-class, BMW has the 7 series, Audi the A8, Honda the Accord, Toyota the Avalon, etc.

The Flagship is the car that sells the least amount of units, unless it's a bargain basement brand. A Low line marque that has trash cars except the top line model.

The Nissan Maxima doesn't sell big units, but it's the flagship of nissan.
I don't disagree. The flagship car is the top model the brand sells whatever it may be. There is one problem with Acura though. They want to compete in the Tier 1 luxury segment. Now, I personally don't really classify luxury like that. I lump Acura, Infiniti, BMW, Lexus, Audi and such all together as luxury, and cars like Bently and the like in the ultra luxury category. That said, Acura has come out recently and stated they want to move the brand into Tier 1 luxury. If you compare the flagships of Tier 1 luxury brands, the RL has to compete with a lot bigger and arguably better models. As it stands now, Acura's flagship competes with Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, and Infiniti's middle line, and at best with Infiniti's current top model the M35/45, but even Infiniti said they may bring back the Q.

With them coming out and saying "we want to compete with..." they've shot themselves in the foot, and must compile somethingand right now they're trying to get the stage set. Instead of hopping out there with another generic, albeit attractively designed large car, they're making their bold moves now. See what works, what doesn't...And to be honest they they've been hard pressed to come out with an unattractive car. The RL isn't ugly if you step back and look at it in person or in motion film. You can actually see what's supposed to happen. Camera Angles just suck.

The RL Works. I like the design now, some pieces still bother me, but the grill itself isn't bad. just the fit on the car. so that should be worked out by the time the large car shows its face. If Acura can create a large car with gusto, i'll be open to it. I know it'll NEVER be able to take on the likes of the S600, but nobody has anything that can best the S600. everybody has 600 label, but nobody can "see" the S600. If Acura actually makes a car that can "see" the S600, i'll cry

I said it doesn't sell because nobody names their daughter Acura.

Mad people wanna name their kids Lexus or Alize or something, so until Acura becomes a popular name, nobody will care about the RL...

B+O the answer to all of this is women are a huge target market. some people buy a car hook it up for the mere hope that it might catch the attention of a nice looking woman. Women buy a car for safety reasons etc. i see more women in that lexus SUV than ever. so while they are at the dealership they end up looking at their sedans hence more lexus drivers. We have the MDX to appeal to "MOM" drivers we need to have a better line up.

Ok, I am caught up. And Ivan, this is the point I have been trying to make all along. Even though they are not on the same level, they are competing in the market as such. To put this in perspective...Acura of today is like Spud Webb playing in a field with Iverson (Infiniti), Jordan of years past (BMW) and LeBron (Mercedes).

One other thing - its funny that you mentioned the Saturns and Olds of the world. I do not even think of them in a "luxury" category, but I do agree with the assessment of them having their "high line" vehicles.

This is a great convo....keep it going guys

Mr. Kam - good to see you again buddy.

Spud Webb was the shit though. Not exactly a superstar when compared to other players, but damn sure got the job done.

How many people today appreciate a car for what it is and not for what the want it to be? When I bought my '04 there were plenty of cars I could have chosen from, but I felt that the RL was the best car for me. It did everything I needed it to do and did it well. Hell, it does more than I need it to, but I like knowing that the car can go above and beyond when I need it to. I accept my RL for what it is and not what I want it to be...which is what a lot of buyers don't do these days.

How you doing Leon? This place is like your first house. You've moved on, but you have so many good memories here you just keep coming back to check it out. I keep waiting for Acura to "Wow" me like they did in the past. So far no go. What that offer now is good, but just nothing special at least for me. I liked the 05 RL, but the price was just too high. Like the TL, but it is due for a refresh. Liked the TSX and need to see the new one in person. Don't really like the refreshed RL 09 though. I also don't like the direction Acura is going with their front grills. It is one thing to have a distinctive recognizable front grill on your brand like BMW or Audi, but the one Acura is using sucks.

I agree Chris. I don't have a japanese car in my immediate household, and I am looking for a reason to support the new stuff. So far, no good. I do think I am liking the the LS460L. But not enough to buy one.....we will see. Good to see you Chris!
