I thought the new RL had a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds?

Not even close. Even the new 05 Infiniti M45 with 345 HP I believe does 0-60 with a best time of 5.6. To get under 6 seconds you need a lot more HP or a lot less weight. An average of 6.7 is still fairly fast.

i think honda is heading in the right direction. fast is subjective and for the most part, over 3/4th of the RLs out there won't see the track.

its better to slowly head into the right direction than to jump right into it. Competition stiffens up along the way. Honda could make the RL run 13s if they wanted to, but what for? It's not the RL's intent to be a track car.

We have all heard the rumors that Honda as thinking of adding an upscale large body Sedan with a V8 above the RL right? This is all speculation and everyone probably thinks it will never happen, but I had always thought it was very probable sometime in the future. Now that Honda has finially come out with a truck (Ridgeline) I think a V8 is even more probable sometime soon. While the V6 is adequate for the Rideline right now, if Honda plans to expand its truck line and compete more broadly it will surely need that V8 to put in the truck. Once that V8 is made, I bet we see it either in the RL, or in that so called upscale Sedan above the RL. I bet we also see it in the next Honda supercar as well whether it be the NSX or some new creation.

So yea, I agree with you. I think Honda has some longer term goals in mind. Even as it is right now, in the next coming years the 2.5 J spec engine has some room to grow. I think a safe 325-330 HP is achieable. Just throw on soe DOHC and retweak the VTEC and we are right there.

I am starting to wonder if Honda will ever make a motor with more than 6 cylinders and 3.5L for road use.

I agree with ChrisK - Honda is not done with the RL. Look for more power from either an IMA version or a 3.8l V6 or even a V8 in the future. Look back in history and show me a Honda model that didn't increase in power over time. It's all part of the marketing game. The easiest way to get people to trade in their 2005 RL for a 2007 RL is to put 50-80 more horsepower in it. I'm guessing 2007 we'll be having this discussion again, only this time with a few more positive comments on power and performance. That said, I too could really care less about 0-60 and 1/4 mile times since my 18th birthday was a long, long time ago and I don't need to prove my manhood on the road.

actually it needs more torqure and it could pull a little harder. more torque than horsepower

I'll second what drfunk said, more torque would be good. I switched from a BMW 745i to the RL and overall am thrillled...mostly because the RL runs =) But, the torque difference is very very noticeable. It's kind of sad really, the BMW V8 is a sweet engine, mileage is virtually the same as the RL's V6, but BMW took that engine and then surrounded it with a bunch of unreliable electronics.

lallalallalallala.........seriously, ud expect more torque for a AWD 4000lb car. Anyway, Maybe Honda made the RL lack performance so in the future they can increase sales by redesigning it for better performance. I just hope some 05 RL owner puts that 4.0L V8 Mugen engine in there somehow.

Actually forget about the powerplant for a second....just think what they could do with a 6-speed auto?? That would make the car quicker and more efficient. Thats how the Lex gets it's quicker times with a less endowed motor.

Yes, I agree. Honda really needs a 6-Speed automatic, or even up the ante and follow everyone esle and bring in an SMG/MMT/F1 clutchless manual with automatic mode. This car is not slow no matter what people say. 6.7 to 60 is quick. Put in a 6-Speed (Even a full torque convertor automatic) and this car can do 6.5 easy with the right gearing. There is two things I really scratch my head on with Honda and this RL. Keeping a SOHC V6 and not putting in a DOHC V6, and not putting in a 6-Speed auto. Upgrade to those two things and this car will have over 300HP. closer to 270 lbs-ft of torque, and run in the low 6 seconds to 60 and about 14.7 1/4 miles.

The V6 DOHC (in the acura line) always seems to be reserved for the NSX. I wouldn't doubt that the next version of the NSX is going to have some sort of 3.5L V6 DOHC...it'll probably push 350hp or so, with the SH-AWD....This is to bridge the criticism until the newer Mythical Hybrid NSX comes out, or a V8 version...

And as far as the RL goes, i see it maybe getting a little bit of a boost like 320HP or so after a few years...possibly a 6-speed option eventually.
