Backseat lights and Display on Bose Stereo

I've had problems with the display on my Bose stereo since I got it. You couldn't see it at all in the day before and at night you could see it a little bit. The lights that you hit the two buttons for in the backseat also wouldn't work and I knew it wasn't the bulbs.

Then I got a amp and sub installed at Circuit City and after that my display on the stereo was perfect and the lights in the backseat would come on too with a push of their buttons. I had also checked my wire connections to my Bose amp the next day for something unrelated.

Now, I had to take my car back to Circuit City because they forgot to plug my cd changer back into the Bose stereo and now after that the display barely shows up at all again and the lights in the backseat don't come on again.

Nothing is physically wrong with the lights as they worked for a short while so I can only think of a loose wire somewhere that would control both of these things. Anyone know where to start looking to fix that?

Do you mean the overhead map lights/buttons above the rear passenger seat?

Yeah. Actually they might be two different problems now. Are the overhead lights in the back only supposed to be able to come on when you have your lights on? The front ones you can cut on anytime but just discovered tonight that my back ones work when I have my lights on.

The display on the stereo still is too dim, though. You can see it a little during the day and night but it's pretty dim and you have to strain your eyes a little to see the numbers.

Yes, the rear overhead map lights, glovebox light, vanity mirror lights, and the rear ashtray lights only come on when the parking lights or headllights are on.
I had the same problem with my headunit last year. When I took it out and put it back in, the display radio stations, CD track, etc. was readable again (normal brightness). So I thought, it must be a loose connection in there or a cold solder joint, because after a few days it went back to being dim.
So I took it apart and resoldered the circuit boards. It seemed like it was a power problem, and not enough was going to the flourecent display (not to be mistaken with the LED's that illuminate the surrounding buttons when you turn on the lights). It worked again for a little while longer, but then the display was dim again.
I ended up buying a used one off eBay and it has been working perfect since.
