Bose Premium no display

Is the Bose Premium radio in a 94 LS display light bulbs or vacuum tube display? Got the car with no display so I don't know which one it is. I have read that Bose displays have history of going out. The bulb display heads go out because the circuit boards have cold solder joints (which I can fix). The vacuum display heads have a transformer problem (which I can't).

Would like to know which one it is before I take the time to pull the unit.

Has anybody fixed either display without sending it in for a $175.00 repair bill?

but bose is quality so 175 isn't that bad compared to spending 300 for a new alpine

I have the same problem, but if you fix the Bose and another part of it fails, which is possible, then you have wasted $175.

Spending $125 more for something brand new is well worth it

thats true since your sending it in for that problem thats all they are going to fix even if they notice something else they may tell you but they are just going to charge you for that to. the fact that the unit it 10+ its just time to update it if your havin problems

Was your unit the premium Bose (it will say Premium on the front) or the standard Bose? I have been able to find out that a lot of the Bose units installed in differant auto makes have a history of bad solder joints on the main board. If the unit has bulbs for the display, and they don't work,, it is a easy fix. If it is a vacuum tub display, it is a part replacement problem. That's why I'm trying to find out which display the Premium has. What confuses me is I have read that the Bose and the Premium Bose are the same head,, only the amps are different.
Was the Ebay unit from a private party or a repair shop?

Normally radio heads don't ware-out,, if they go 2 or 3 years (assuming no moisture problems), they will go for ever. Tape decks, CDs, amps (heat), and bulbs do.

Thanks for your post

does the radio and tape player still work??

Well mine wasnt working i took the whole thing apart and fixed it with my dad.
There are these things that look like metal tooth picks make sure there all straight and put them each directly into each of there own little holes. Get a solder, wick the lead out and find ur problem.

light bulbs? vacuum tubes??? Looks like LCD to me. My display is going dim, which I believe is a common problem. Personally, I'd say get a nice lookin' replacement off E-bay rather then go aftermarket, because unless you can find one that runs 2 Ohms like our OEM instead of the usual 4 Ohms of most aftermarkets, your gonna lose volume and sound quality, from what I undertand. Had 2 different aftermarket units in my car and went back to OEM.

Thats the 2100. The 2200 was in base and L. Says on the front of the radio right above the display too.

The factory radio in our cars use bulbs for all lighting. They are super easy to replace as well. At one point i had intended to change the bulbs to LED's, but decided to go a different route. I had it all apart and the bulbs come right out. Go for it.
