Which factory HU is this?

Alright... before I try for a head unit switch, I want to make sure exactly which OEM unit I have, and it's giving me a little bit of a fit. I have a '91 L Coupe which according to the FAQ is supposed to have a 'Standard Bose' 2200 head unit(the one with the 80Wx4, 4-ohm output). It looks like there are two versions of the 2200 that I have seen; the ones with the seven-band EQ (as seen in this ebay auction: HERE ) and those that look a lot like the 2-ohm 'Bose Premium' head units with the external amp.

What I have is a head unit with a seven-band EQ on it. The photo in the Ebay auction shows(albeit blurry) the 2200 logo underneath the balance/fader control knobs, wheras the unit in my car has a '1600' right above the EQ's menu button.

It looks like I do not have a 2200 in my car, but I wanted to pose the question here and make certain before I start looking into getting one. Anyone have any ideas on which HU I actually have?

Wow... I haven't seen that head since my 92L.

It sounds like you have the base head (badged Acura but built by Alpine). Not sure what the specs are other than it runs 4ohm.

Yeah... I ended up digging out an old 2200 I was considering putting in my old G1 a long time ago; differences were pretty obvious. The 2200 will have the Bose logo on the cassette door, and it will have the signal processing assembly(which is Bose-manufactured) mounted underneath.

I pulled it apart(it wasn't working, looks like it had been left out in the rain at some point because there was a huge amount of corrosion) and found that the 2200 was in fact made by Alpine as well; all the Bose stuff is in the signal processing unit. It also looks like there were coupe and sedan-specific versions; perhaps tailored to each others' acoustics?

Yep! Actually, seeing your video DIY on the 2200 in the G1 made me want to upgrade, hence the project.

I pulled mine apart after putting it in my coupe and having a strange time getting it working. The HU would power on and raise/lower the power antenna, the anti-theft light would blink on, and the steering wheel controls would work the volume knob. However, no display, no sound, and nothing would happen when I hit the input code. So... it got sacrificed to my curiosity(and screwdrivers).

I'll try getting pics up in the next short while, but it was interesting to pull apart.
