Help!! New Legend Owner - Speaker Ploblems (No Sound)
1st of all I'd just like to say that I just bought my first car !!, a beautiful 1992 Rosewood Brown LS (don't have a digital camera).
Anyways the previous owner had an aftermarket system (KENWOOD deck,BOSTON f/r speakers, amp, subs) installed,He told me he would keep the deck and the front/rear speakekers in the car but was gonna take the amp and sub. So now I am stuck with NO SOUND at all in the car.Its really hard to enjoy my ride with no music.I until i have some $$$ I would be fine with just music from my speakers without buying a sub & amp. I kno nothing about audio systems but all thats left in the trunk is the rca cables coming from the head unit thats supposed to connect to the amp,& some other wires.I searched on this site and was wondering how exactly do i get the headunit to power my inside speakers? Do I have to splice those rca cables and connect them somewhere.I also tried to just connect thos unplugged things back into the stock amp, which did create just a low hiss in the speakers. Can someone please help me. |

you can get a 4 channel amp for pretty cheap. You really dont need the very best if you arent a car audio enthusiast so much and it will still sound very nice. For those speakers I would go with around 80 - 100 watts per channel on a 4 channel amp. Ebay = cheap amps and it sounds to me like all the wires are already there for you making it extremely easy. Theres should be a ground wire, power wire coming from your battery, the rca cable, and the wires from each speaker coming back to where the amp used to be. If you are unsure take a picture of all the wires and post it up here or take it to a local car audio shop and they will tell you if all the wires are there. Just buy a decent 4 channel amp on ebay (many people here including myself can help you pick something). Let us know if you need more information.

if you don't have the money to purchase a new amp, you'll need to take a look at the wiring. since he only took the amp and subs, you'll have to figure out how he ran things..done one of two ways:
1. he used speaker level inputs going into the amp he used to power the door speakers 2. he ran rca's for door speakers to amp in case #1, you'll have to pull the rear seats to expose factory amp (or at least where it used to be). what you'll see are 8 wires all exposed. if the factory amp is still there, just reconnect the wires matching them by colors. if the amp isn't there, then you'll have to follow the directions under the 'amp-bypass" in the diy section. in case #2, pull the rear seats. you'll see aftermarket speaker wire connected to the thick factory wires leading to each individual speaker and the other end will more than likely be cut and resting somewhere in the trunk. what you need to do is connect all the factory wires together by following the 'amp-bypass' in the diy section. when following the amp-bypass instructions, be sure to check and make sure the LF is actually LF and RF is really RF, etc. Do this by checking after each connection of + & - by using the fader and balance controls. if your stuff is wired differently, lmk |
