Navigation Question
Recently I've been looking at the Panasonic CQ-VAD7200 because it is a single DIN unit with a motorized 7" flip out screen that does everything, DVD, CDR, MP3, TV Tuner, all of it.
That's great and all, but one of the main reasons that I would want to put a screen into my car is so that I can get an aftermarket navigation system. I've heard great things about Alpine navigation from people here and from elsewhere, however, here is my question .. Will an Alpine navigation unit (NVE-N852A) work with this unit? I checked and there is a dedicated Navi input on the Panasonic. Panasonic is making these units but they don't even have their own navigation system yet, so that's why I'm posing this question. Any audio/video guys out there know the the answer to this question? Could there be some type of adaptor that would allow the Alpine navi to work with any other head unit? Thanks for all the help guys! -Dave |

What features would an Alpine head unit control as far as navigation is concerned, that a non-Alpine (ie. Panasonic) wouldn't ??
Also, I've looked on the Panasonic menu screens and there are some navi options in there, as far as dB level drop and one other one, I can't remember the others off hand. What would the remote control (it comes with the navi unit?) actually do ?? Also, when a unit says it has a dedicated navigation input, does that mean it just has another set of RCA jacks or something on the back, or is it some type of wierd plug? The reason I'm asking is, would the Alpine navi unit be able to plug into a non-Alpine navi input or have to go through a video/audio input? Thanks for the help LegendGS! As for the inputs, you'll have to rely on someone with real knowledge.
![]() As for the controls, the Alpine headunit and navi communicate via Ai-net. This allows all of the commands to go through the headunit to the nav unit instead of having to use a dedicated IR eye (which isn't really a bid deal anyway). It also allows the user to use a single remote for both the headunit and the nav unit. The nav unit will come with a stand-alone remote too. The remote is used for input, and menu selection. |

If your interested in getting an Alpine nav. with a non alpine headunit you would have to purchase there adaptor which convert the alpine din cable to RCA output. It's not the AI net cable. The other thing to take into consideration how are you going to get sound through your navigation. It all depends on your non alpine headunit also. If your really interested in getting the Alpine Nav or if you have any guestions about it feel free to email me Nutoy@aol.com , i'll tell you all the parts number and adaptor you'll need.
