Some questions about hooking an amp to speakers...

Hey everyone,
I'm pretty new to the car audio scene, so I don't know much, that's where u guys come in and save the day Anyways I have some Cerwin Vega Speakers to swap in for the four stock ones. I know these speakers are pretty power hungry (rated at 60W RMS 120W Max) so I plan to get a 4 channel amp and that's how I plan to power the speakers. I have a couple of questions, how do i go about changing the power to the speakers (changing from the headunit to the amp) and also how many watts do i need? is it as simple as saying 240RMS, or what? Also, I have my stock Bose headunit (the 4 ohm one) can i keep that there as long as all the power will be coming from that amp i buy? Or will something affect the headunit? I dont know too much about audio so sorry if some quesitions seem silly Thanks in advance!

Installing an aftermarket amp with the OEM headunit w/ integrated amps (L model legends) can be done using speaker level to line level output convertors. Some aftermarket amps have these convertors built-in so additional equipment will not be nexessary. However if you decide to purchase an amp that does not have these you will need to puchase some. Basically what will happen is that you will use the signal that the factory headunit amplifiers are putting out and convert it to a line level signal that the aftermarket amp can use.

As far as what size amplifier you need for the speakers it depends a great deal on the brand of amplifier as well as how loud you like to play your music.

If you want to look at some wiring diagrams for the factory head units visit my site, LEGENDtuner.com
