trouble installing D3 w/ loc
okay, here's what i've run into. i have a 91 Legend Sedan LS with the standard BOSE system. I bought the car without a headunit.
so now i'm installing a pioneer avic-d3 nav unit using a universal honda radio harness and a line output converter. my problem is that i cannot get the front speakers to fully play. the rear speakers work just fine and i can adjust them using the LOC. the front speakers are a different story. the front left barely has sound coming out. the front right doesn't work at all. now if i read the faq correctly we only have one amplifier for 4 speakers right? is it possible that the amp is shot? could it just be a wiring dilemma someone along the line? has anyone encountered a similiar problem? i don't have a factory h/u to plug into the factory harness to check everything. furthermore, i soldered all my connections. including the wires going into the LOC. they were falling out after test fitting so i just dropped some solder in there to secure them. so before i cut, lose length of wire and possible my LOC, and resolder, does anyone have any idea what could be wrong here? thanks in advance |

i read the DIY and it stated that a line output converter can be used in order to lower the signal strength going from the aftermarket radio to the factory amp. this would enable the system as a whole to function properly. in by-passing the amp, i'm running 2 ohm speakers with a 4 ohm receiver that costs $1000. i'd rather not take the chance of damaging the receiver.

u know ur shit stoffius. Check behind the back seat to see if u got the black bose amplifier. Theres a couple boxes back there to control your memory settings and ABS, so make sure it says bose on it. If u don't have one back there, ur stock radio might have the amplifier integrated into the deck, kinda like mine. I got a Pioneer 6700, wired the speaker outputs into the harness and it worked fine. The D3 should be able to handle the 2 ohm load just fine, but if ur concerned and want better sound quality anyway, just swap the speakers out.

Since there is alot of misinformation in this thread, I'll try to help clear things up.
You do not need to bypass your factory amp. You do not need to buy new speakers. You should not run your pioneer deck at two ohms. Although it will work temporarily, it will drastically shorten the life of the Mosfet outputs. When speakers are playing, they change impedence as they move. That means a 2 ohm speaker will fluctuate between 1.5-2.5 ohms. Not good for your HU. Stoffius: you have done your research and have all the correct parts. There is a test you should do to tell if your problem is in the Bose amp or the LOC. First disconnect all the speakers from the LOC. Turn the ignition of the car on and make sure the BOSE amp is powered on ( it will be powered on by the blue wire in the aftermarket harness.) Next take a 9.6 volt battery, like from a TV remote , or even a AA battery. With the amp powered on, touch each speakers outputs, pos and neg, to the pos and neg of the battery. You should hear that speaker pop slightly. If all speakers pop and are around the same loudness when they pop, your Bose amp is good, and your LOC is bad. My guess is its the LOC. Good luck Devan |

well i finally figured it out. but first, let me tell you what i did. yanked out wires from loc and connected front speakers directly to radio..same problem. front left plays and nothing out of the right. then i yanked out the cover underneath the glovebox. i found a two wire clip unplugged..plugged it in and nothing changed. i have no idea what the was about. then i proceeded to yank out the rear seats. all the wiring looked fine.
what i was experiencing didn't make sense. i couldn't believe that just one channel would go bad. so i traced the wires from the amp back to the door. ripped the door panel off and low and behold, there was no fucking connection going into the speaker. the harness was cut and i just have two wires dangling. a solid red and a red/white wire. now going into the speaker, i have to figure out my positive and negative. this and i have to get a new loc cause i destroyed the old one. well thats it. i can thank the previous owner who didn't know what in the hell he was doing for all that. now i'm gonna put it all together and enjoy my drives from now on. thanks again dude ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by stoffius : 05-28-08 at 08:45 PM.
