this weekend: box building fun
ok so this weekend i finally got a chance to build a box for my RE8's i bought like 6 months ago.
I haven't built a box in like 2 or 3 years, so it was good to get out and do it again. This is probably only my 3rd box for myself, but i've helped friends with a few of theirs. ![]() ![]() ![]() i took out my RE HC that was in a 2.5 cu ft box, and replaced it w/ 2 RE8's. .5 cu ft. per chamber, tuned to 35 hz. i got the RE8's cheap, especially cause one had the dust cap fall off, and had a huge dent in it. I'm actually suprised how low these hit. really helps they are ported. I've heard sealed, they aren't nearly as great. they sound better facing backwards, but they're so ugly being damaged, and i like just tossing stuff in my trunk w/o worrying about hitting anything. It's SO nice having a decently sized trunk, my old HC box took up easily half my trunk. Oh and if anyone's curious the demensions of my new box is 33"L X 9"W X 11" H (including the 2" feet) i haven't decided if i want to carpet. I might just make a beauty board, but i'd lose a little trunk space. Maybe i'll make a beauty board w/ some compartments in the empty spaces. but i'll leave that for another weekend ![]()

i've never tried laminate....i've actually only ever used carpet.....my first box had nice plush carpet from some carpet wherehouse on it, haha
yea my radial arm saw does come in handy, but it can only do cuts like < 15" long. I actually have my local lumber place do all my cuts for me. this time they even gave them to me for free one thing i do need is a router. i borrowed my friend's rotozip but the bit broke and i was too lazy to go out and buy another. i finished the holes w/ a jigsaw, which turned out surprisingly round, haha. these actually get decently loud for a temporary system till i get all the components for my next one. I'm running them off 2 channels off a cheap 4X100 MA Audio amp. My neighbor came out and gave me a dirty look. I think she said something to me, but i couldn't hear her. haha. i still have some tuning to do w/ this new amp. honestly having a sub/amp combo that cost me under $120 bucks, is making me reconsider buying $500 worth of tru tech amps (which i got great deals on). I'm probably not going to be using those for another 6 months, so we'll see if i decide to resell them. they should keep their value pretty well.
