Seriously though, you should remember all the same talking point about Windows XP when it came out. It's bloated, it's slow, crap doesn't work, stick with Windows 2k. A bit worse with Vista, but if the next version takes as long to put together we'll all be treating Vista just like we did XP, and Windows 2000 before that.

FWIW I'm not trying to argue against the general position that Vista's not worth going for, I'm still using XP (and OS X, and Linux).

That's great that you've been an IT guy for so many years, but I also consider my knowledge of computers quite extensive as I have worked on various networks and assembled many PCs for years- and yes I have worked on the IT level as well. It's currently my major and I hope to land a full scale IT job in the future when I graduate.

That being said; everyone has a personal opinion- I have not had driver/hardware issues with Vista on NEWER hardware...it runs it faster and more reliable than when I boot into XP SP3 on the same machine. I do run into problems on older PCs that were originally not meant to run vista- regardless of the B.S "vista capable" label or not. Example; Creative's subpar ability to create Vista drivers (though improved quite a bit...)

I'm familiar with OSX and love its' design- but the lack of being able to cherry pick each individual hardware piece that goes into it at decent prices has always pushed me away from it. I would use it as a laptop for productivity work.
