Hi
|
Cheap tires versus expensive tires
So whats the difference?
Sumitomo HTR+ = $68/ea. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S = $200+/ea. I've always put Michelin MXV4+s at $150/ea on my car since day one. Daddy taught me always to use the best rubber I could. But really, I'm getting new rims and tires, 215/50/17s, so I'm really wondering if its worth paying so much more for the Michelin's or the Goodyears than the Pirelli P zero neros or the Kumhos or Sumitomos or Yokohamas. I do think the Eagle F1s look damn sexy. This post was pretty stupid so I put it in the lounge. I searched though, couldn't find somebody asking what seems like one of those things everybody would be wondering.

IMO, you get what you pay for. I'll be tire-shopping again in the near future, and for a similar size as well... 215/45/17. I picked up my Falken Z-rated Ziex 512's in May of this year for about $320 for all four (shipped) brand new off Ebay. They are crap. I have had tire bulges and won't put the bulged tires on the front b/c they might blow out (thus I cannot rotate them properly). They wear funny (even after an alignment), have more road noise than I'd like, and after having driven on them for about 15,000 miles, I can tell they're not gonna last much longer. I vote Michelin.

Ive had Kumho and Ive had the P Zero Neros from Pirelli. Both are really good tires and cheap at that. I recommend them Ive been between these 2 tires for a few years now. The P Zero Neros last longer then the Kumhos but both are almost identical in stickiness to the road and wet weather traction. Both tires are very quiet and smooth ride (considering that I ride on a 40 series low profile its still not gonna be as quiet as factory) I recommend you save $$ and buy the tires from Tirerack ..cheapest prices good quality company. You never know what you gonna get when you score those E-bay deals especially on tires.

I agree with Guy. You get what you pay for. Sure - they may be cheap, but you may end up buying a set 2x because of issues w/ tire failure. I have learned cheaper is not always better. Get the best you can and cry once
![]() I am running Toyo Proxes T1S and they are awesome. Excellent wet traction (I cannot break them lose in wet unless I do a brake stand w/ DSC off) and awesome dry traction. 245/40 (F) and 275/35 (R) Also, Leo is right...but you should not skimp on that part of your ride. Its important.

Well here's my dilema and my need.
I dont have $400 to $500 dollars to spend on tires. Basically I have $250 to $300 to spend on a set of tires. I need them because I am about to do some traveling. I have used on because I was planning to get some rims and didnt want to get new tires and then have to change them when I get the rims. I have the OEM size (205/60 R15) what is a decent brand for my money. PS: I would put the best if you can afford it because tires are an important part of the overall ride and upkeep of the car.

Reg - I thought I shared with you a few sites that have some really cheap wheel and tire packages? I would say if you absolutely just need some tires to get you to point b and back to a - go to www.treaddepot.com or www.discounttire.com until you have the $$$ to get the right stuff.

I remember asking tire question before and got some good feedback, but then I forgot everything. I am going to check out these sites, becasue I think I am going to put them on on saturday or maybe in the middle of next week. My first trip is on the 19th.

hey, i have to say, kumho tires are pretty decent. My friend has exstas on his Turbo Lebaron and they still have alot of tread life on them even after doing some high power manouvors. LOL. And they stick pretty well, if you check i believe tire rack, most of the kumhos have pretty good write ups to them, and they are pretty cheap at the same time.

Kumho's are by far the best performance + price you can get.
Advan Yokoyamas are next in line, but they can get a tad expensive. Yay go koreans, they did something right in their lives.
