I know some of us don't get around to visiting the "Racing Discussions" often but I would like for a few more heads to read the replies that have been posted in this particular thread. Not trying to change the world but it might save a life or two. Please read word for word, line for line. This was found by another one of our well known members *cough* Leon *cough* so read it as well for re-enforcement. (What, more reading? What is this guy trying to do?) http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=152840 -Thanx, AcSwerver Last edited by ThaAcStangSwerver : 10-14-02 at 12:14 PM. |

I am very competitive...but the bottom line is...is this worth it?
Think about that.... I normally would not have a problem with it being done intelligently...but there is nothing intelligent about street racing. That's all that can be said...SURE, it is tempting, but is it worth it? My brother's Q45 got totalled last month cuz some idiot in a truck was racing someone else and ran a light. Luckily, he was not injured. He ran head on into the truck's side.

I have mixed views on this issue.....
I think street racing is stupid and dangerous and I really feel for the innocent people who are caught in the middle of anothers F*ckup. There was an incident in BC a few weeks back where a 23 old RCMP officer was killed when his cruiser was broadsided @120MPH by two young kids racing down a residential type street late at night. That stuff makes me sick..... However, everyone has the right to have fun in their automobile and I think it is only human nature to do the occasional sprinted acceleration..... and by no means does that involve racing someone in a public place at ridiculous speeds... I mean a green light opening up onto a highway with a speed limit of 100kmh(60mph) may just becon you to push the revs a bit.... Whats wrong with that? No pedestrians...no intersections... and if there is a car beside that wants to race to the speed limit or whatever..... big deal.... I clearly have a problem though of racing in the city where there are spectators, obstacles, intersections etc..... and where 50 or 80km/h is the speed limit. One thing people dont understand is that speed limits also account for road conditions....... just because the road is wide open does not mean that it is safe. THose industrial roads are full of huge ruts, potholes, raised manhole lid covers etc. THose pose a huge problem when driving at high speeds. Highways on the other hand are meticulously maintaned because of the highspeeds of the people travelling on them. I have felt safer at 160kmh on a highway than doing 80km/h down an industrial road or contruction zone. As long as its done in a safe and responsible manner, who cares..... I guess its where the individual draws the line. If that is not allowed then we should all drive a ford clitaurus with 110 hp 4cyl (my first car....gutless POS) to make the roads safer. Another reason I like a car with power is to get myself out of situations..... passing on the highway, merging etc.... Sorry for the long post.... Have a great monday everyone.....

Just read that Maxima.org post.
I think we should just take the "Racing Discussions" away totally, the board itself. If we wanna talk about stuff on the track, do it in Off-Topic once in a while. But I'm like most, I dont get out to the track much. At least we havent knowingly lost a beloved member of our forums, that I know of, at least, like this Maxima.org guy, 98Max.

I know what you mean, Cole...I enjoy throwing the revs...I used to do a spirited run where safe up to the speed limit...no harm, no foul, right? Sure, but lately, people have been tempting me to pull out a .45 and blow their tires out. I am getting SOOOOOOOOO tired of driving along, and some jacka@# cuts me off doing 30 mph less than the speed limit. Then stays that way.
In Atlanta, GA, you can't HELP but do 80-85mph JUST to keep from being run over, so yes, its is very easy to cruise on 285 at or around 90-95 to be safe fro harm...but of course you must be attentive. I just hate when a kid in a Civic pulls up to me in THICK rush hour traffic, and riding my a$#!! This is the Tokyo Racer way of saying lets run. OOooooh so tempting, but too dangerous...those kid ALWAYS cut other folks off, and almost always are the ones causing accidents involving street racing fatalities. Track Forum encourages us to reflect and LEARN our cars.... Just about every forum has a track section, and has banned racing on the streets...too bad we don't have the autobahn....this prob would be solved.

its to easy yo speed along the freeway at 80 and then some punk pulls up and then brakes i think its fine to have spirited driving and i really enjoy it but to a certain extent there is a fine line between the street and track lets keep it safe and have good times at the track |

I agree with AcSwerver on this one, we could get rid of the racing discussion and make it something more useful and informative. Maybe something like other car discussions or questions about other cars. |

i sort of agree with dissentigrating this section. Before i became a moderator i thought to my self, "why a Racing Discussion section" most race stories are street races and those that do post end up hearing more than once "STREET RACING IS REALLY STUPID"and, "YOU ARE GOING TO HURT SOMEONE OR YOURSELF" and feeling a little less gleamy about his run (thouroghly deserved BTW). the RL forum has been tried already and was not a huge success.
In all honesty the Racing discussion Section was like a Rice Boy Steet racer. flying lovely, Changing to Track discussion brought about the break down of race stories to tradgety and now it seems as though this "Racer Boi" has collided his all conquering Legend with a tree. all thoughts brought to you by forum members ,are seen by me, to be the actual Crash site. But with this section going away there will be no where for Dv8 to tell us about his latest run maybe he hit 12's how woudl we know (I know i know Dv8, you'd post it some where but im making a point). There'd be nowhere to post or if it's someone's first time at the track and they ran a nice mid 15...where to post? the Track racing discussion will get more or less the same traffic an RL forum would, which is to say very little. EMT-MATT, do what you do and do it well. |
