effing Acura Dealership!!!! Kinda Funny I guess....
So for those of you who dont lurk around the G1 section, a little background...
My grandfather wants to pick up an 88 sedan parts car (no tranny) to put the 2.7 engine into an 87 2.5 sedan (bad engine/tranny needs a rebuild). So I posed this question to the Acura "Technicians" at Gold Coast Acura (I'll try to keep it as close to verbatim as possible...cliffs at bottom): Quote:

fill out a "how are we doing" card, and let them have it. "Your Technicians need to learn about the car before they actually start removing pieces by help of a book", cause thats all these new technicians are doing is following directions to something (at least thats what i have seen)

One thing about dealership technicians, they are generation specific (for lack of a better term). Usually these are guys straight from auto school or something. They dont really know that much about other cars and generations. The work on current models all day that's all they really know. Maybe there is an old dude who has been with Acura long enough to know the other models and such, but these young guys are just newbies, so to speak. I get more info from the shade tree mechs and corner shops guys then from the actual Acura Technicians. There's one Acura dealership here in NYC that wont even give you an appointment if you have an older car - they ask what year you have first and then tell you either they have a time for you or not
I tested them, told them I had a 94Legend - they said they were booked solid for 3 weeks. I had my wife call right after and tell them she has a 03 RL and needed an oil change - they gave her 8AM the next day!!! Then just for the heck of it, I emailed my cousin and asked him to call and say he has the "05 RL" and he hears something funny, they told him to come in SAME DAY at 3pm. Whatttttt?

It's true the dealer isn't the best place to get info. on older models. Hey, what you gonna do? I call and ask them for part numbers to see what can and cannot be exchanged and as for harder questions, I come here. I can't put a price on this communities worth.

My question is: Do cars have more than one throttle body? I dont think so, but then again I am not a mechanic.
Someone told me that at pepboys and other places like that there is usually 1 or 2 actual SAE Licensed and Certified "Automotive Mechanics". The rest are just Automotive Technicians. Like the difference between a: Police Officer and a Security Guard Registered Nurse and a LPN Chef and a guy that can cook NASCAR driver and a speed freak Maybe that is what is going on there - maybe you should go there and ask them again in front of their manager (chances are the manager has the same knowledge and then you dont want your car there anyway)

Well I have a fairly good relationship with the guys in the parts department over there...It is the closeset Acura Dealership to me as it is 10 minutes away and the next one is about 30-45 minutes....so I always go there for my Oil Filters etc. but Ive never once utilized the service department until yesterday....
Frankly I felt a little cheated walking away because the dealership will charge like $70/hour on labor with these two guys working on cars (that are probably worth more than all three of my cars combined) and here I am like a sucker scrounging by at my bullsh!t pay rate counseling real people with real problems...AND I STILL probably have automotive skills at least equal to theirs!! AND I ONLY WORK ON CARS AS A HOBBY!!!....it just didnt leave me with a clean taste in my mouth....[/rant] |
