Question Globus travel agency; Escorted tour...

The Mrs and I canceled out on our winter Europe escorted tour and was issued a 12 months voucher... they gave us couple of options; Asia or South America <=Costa Rica to be exact (my pick) but the Mrs is leaning towards Asia.

I need to convince her that South America is the place to visit... help me out here ladies and gentlemen to persuade the Mrs.

Thank you in advance

Hong Kong, no question. C'mon Ferjie, Hong Kong is probably fucking awesome. Exotic city, exotic women, it'd be like Manila but without the nastiness =D

Yeesh, yea if you're looking for a relaxing time Costa Rica is way better. Hong Kong and the Kowloon Bay area in general is great place for shopping and night life (but don't mention shopping because if she's like my wife the debate would be over right there, and not in your favor). I'd use Costa Rica's natural beauty and beach/adventure activities (if she's into that) to hype it up. Plus it's a lot less flying time - my wife hates flying, but loves to travel . You can take one of those nice leaisurely small boat cruises up the river and enjoy the rain-forest, chill at the beach and have pina colada or two. Unwind. Hong Kong is busy, noisy high energy and more a place to go if you're looking for an ultra-urban/party sort of trip. My .02.

Hong Kong is the Mrs pick, mainly for shopping though ...but I told the Mrs, if we go there might as well swing by PI and say hi/hello to relatives.

Funny you mentioned Kowloon Bay... my older sister lives there ...the Mrs is planning to call her in an hour; PST.

Costa Rica on the other hand is my kind a place, just needed some R&R is all I'm asking her. I'll prolly even throw out Antigua; as for another place to see.

We (my parents and us as teenagers) lived in Singapore for quite a few years and now my wife and I still go back to visit friends every now and then. So I got to travel around Asia a little bit. Did my fair share of partying in HK! Antigua sounds nice....always wanted to go there , heard the diving is fantastic!!

"you were born in asia, why the hell would you go back?"

or in any variance. plus, costa rica is where all the online poker places are located. not to mention oodles of other gambling.

I still say Hong Kong. You can get a beachside experience anywhere else. I'm biased of course but to me, Hong Kong is just so different from anywhere else I've ever been.

The Mrs is totally going 180* on me... now she's looking into "Down Under" and might just get a chance to try out Vegemite sandwich

Australia? That's a bit out of the blue, eh? Sure, when I'm thinking Hong Kong and Costa Rica, the next logical jump is to Australia (right? maybe not). That's some crazy long flight time as well.

Shopping can be done anywhere, there's cheap outlets all across America- I don't think shopping should play a part in deciding where to spend a voucher for a destination vacation. I'd say CR is the way to go. Beaches, drinks, food, flowers, trees, fish... all sorts of exotic opportunities. What's the most exciting thing that can happen on a shopping trip in Hong Kong? Maybe they use "exotic" cash registers? Perhaps Jackie Chan will pop out of a display case and beat up some bad guys? Maybe a sneak peak at next gen electronics that will be all over the internet in 3 months anyway? Go for the beach!!

As far as I can tell from studying my wife's behavior re: shopping, the act of shopping (both window and transactional) has an intrinsic value for her that I will never understand However, her explanation to whenever I almost get an aneurysm from looking at the shopping 'tab' is that it soothes her and provides the same level of satisfaction as tinkering on the cars provides me. I guess that's good enough since she pays 75% of her shopping bills with her own money. Anything for the house or common usage for both of us I'll pay for, even if sometimes they can be superfluous things.
