Honestly want to know, racist or not?

Please don't ban me if so, just delete this thread, but how is something like this taken in? I think it's kinda funny, but then again, that's my outlook, I'm not trying to start anything but I found this on AOL and am curious, is this overstepping?

Yeah, and I have the feeling if I even have to ask, then it probably is, and I apologize, just wondering how my african american brothers feel about it, cause I know the way whites see things can be Waaaaay different to them.

I think it is funny. It's ironic. Meaning it's funny because it does over step the lines, but in a way we can all relate to. Thinking racially centered jokes and gags are funny doesn't make you racist. I mean, unforntunately, racial inequality is something we see all too often; being able to take it lightly and have a chuckle about it sort of helps us unite and get over it. Just my .02. I would like to hear what an African American member has to say about it.

I think this is one of those where it depends on who says it. The black part of my family is always talking about the man. I just look at them and laugh. One day I called my nephew cracker. His black uncle looked at me and said he is not a cracker. I responded that he was half cracker. Both races are learning from one another. It's pretty cool to watch.

When I was in the Navy, a Brother told me a white joke. I laughed my ass off, and never thought about the fact that there's prolly as many about "us" as "them", anyway,

Black guy and white guy in an elevator. White guy's whistling, and says, TGIF.
Black guy responds SHIT.
White guy continues with TGIF.
Black guy says SHIT.

White guy finally says, excuse me, but don't you know TGIF means "Thank God It's Friday?"

Black guy responds, "And don't you know SHIT means, Stupid Honkey, It's Thursday?"

I don't think it's all that racist. Mainly because the mice themselves don't see in terms of race - it's strong(er) mouse keeping weak(er) mouse down, which is pretty much how it works in nature. The whole black/white connotation is something we project on to those animals. Now is that projection (the ideas that image brings about in your mind) racist? I don't think so either. But that perception can vary among people. I agree with ER92L that, as a society, we have to be able to look at the flaws in our selves (and let's face it racism does exist in American society) and laugh about it sometimes. Not all race-based jokes are racist and some are actually quite funny (I think Dave Chappelle had a knack for being funny when talking about sensitive issues like race). Then again I'm neither Caucasian nor African American so perhaps my stake in American racism is not as personal as some, although I think racism is something that exists among all cultures and colors, it's not just white hating on black (although in our society this gets talked about more than anything else).

Well, I feel like these kinds of things need to be deeply discussed, because if not how will we learn what is or isn't offensive to the other race? I mean I was really aprehensive about even posting that pic, because I didn't know HOW it would be taken. Glad to see it didn't make me the bad guy anyway!

I honestly believe the next generation can make a big difference in how we all get along. My daughter, who's 11 was looking at a photo in the newspaper, trying to describe this lady. There were like 5 white women, and an African American women. She said, "the lady wearing the necklace and the pants suit."

That lady was the African American women. She does this all the time, like she doesn't even notice the difference in colors. I think it's really amazing and am proud of her for it. Hopefully things will change big when our children grow up.
