I'd let them work on the late model cars they "know" about. The older stuff requires special care.

Sorry to hear about your experience Sergio! I hope all is well soon with the coupe and that the dealership makes things right for you.

To echo what a few others have said, the door handle breakage is common on the G2's. I've already replaced my exterior and interior driver's door handles on my coupe... and paid retail cost for each .

there was a 6spd coupe for sale in sacramento 6 months ago with a broken driver door handle.

I had the acura dealership try to get me in the middle of a timing belt job... I didn't walk away as luck as you, but thankfully I didn't give in to their initial GOUGE

The real rip off is that they would charge $400 for a job like that...they're nuts! No way I would agree to pay that...even the $200 would be too much for that job.

In all honesty, it's only marginally their fault. Yeah, they broke it, yeah they should pay for it. But the real culprit is Honda - the design is shit. That particular part is just asking to break, and you don't even need to exert much force.

If I had the time I would redesign it and sell replacements to everyone.

If you are careful with your door handles they should not break, especially if you keep them in the condition that you do sergio. Ive seen most break because people pull on the handle too hard, and I wouldnt doubt that a mechanic in a hurry got out of your car quickly to change the oil.

BTW: I would never pay $200 for someone to remove my door panel, thats nuts!

I'm going to agree with the few people and say it's not all the dealerships fault. It very well could have broken the very next time you opened the door. I guess they could have at least called you to say the handle had broken instead of trying to hide it.

Either way good luck

We broke an outer door handle on one of our customers car, our worker thought it is open but the car was closed haha.
But we immediately ordered a brand new part and replaced it at no cost of course.

You should have find a new independent shop. I never let anybody touch my car I can do almost everything.

your first mistake was going to a dealership for an oil change. you know you're just asking for it.

but hey, at least you got your way in the end.

Thank you for the responses, everyone.

The dealership was wrong for not taking on the responsibility as a place for customer service; I did not even get a call informing me of this when it happened. That is very unprofessional. The part broke while the car was in their possession. As someone mentioned, the car should be received just as it was delivered. They should not be disputing with me nor compromising. The mere fact that the manager was willing to pay for just labor to then paying for everything tells you that I was correct. I was even willing to take them to court.

Nevertheless, I take it to Acura because I have never really had a bad experience until now. Yes, it does hurt when something needs replacing and I get a nice bill. The assurance of having people that specialize in Acuras work on my car, getting OEM quality parts, and the added service benefits of shuttle rides and loaner cars is what keeps me going back to Acura. Plus, it's really close to home.

So will I keep coming back to the dealership? The luxuries outweigh the total lack of professionalism in this case. At least I know that as a customer, that I can stand up for myself and I am aware of my rights. The customer was right and it is all on them to fix what was broken on their watch.
