I'm an idiot. I bought a camera phone and didn't know you had to pay for ringtones

It's probably the only question I didn't ask the lady selling me the phone. It's an LG VX6000, and It's a real nice phone, but I want other ring tones, and I think $2 per ring tone is a rip off.

If I buy the USB data cord for this phone, can I download ringtones for free through my computer? I'm a newbie to these new phones, especially since my last phone was a Motorola StarTac.

There's a lot of sites where you could get free ringtones. You could do it through data cable or IRDA. Check out this site. www.howardforums.com

Verizon, I found out if you email a midi file from your email to XXXXXXXXXX@vzwpix.com you can upload it to your phone.

X's being your phone number

Yeah $2 sucks.

They were real decent, had excellent reception and battery life for being a first generation flip phone. I had one a few years back, went through both the washer and dryer and still worked for another 6 months.

2nd time through washer and dryer is what killed it.

I actually downloaded midiringtones for my phone. Yeah $2 is a real ripoff but I scare the crap out of everybody when my phone rings and it comes up with the X-Files theme

I've gotta try that midi-emailing idea though... never thought of that...

hmm i just did it, and cant figure out how to get it on my phone...do i need the usb cable to hook it up to the pc?

nope, once you email it to your phone, you can view it in your camera area of your phone, It'll come through as a pic. just look through your pics and it should be there. I could be in the inbox. Then while you're listening to the tones, hit "Options" and save the sound to "My Music"
