OT: Plasma screens, speakers?
I'm thinking of getting a 42" Panasonic Plasma TV (TH-42PWD5UY). Any opinions on this? Also, it doesn't come with speakers, so I'd need to get a set, but don't know what to get.
I don't want to go overboard on the speakers, so I was considering something like the Panasonic SC-HT95. Anyone able to provide input? I know that there are a few of you who are home theatre gurus. ![]() |

Graeme,
I'd hold off on the purchase of a plasma, Prices are going to drop a lot in the next 2-3 years. However I think i saw a place selling 42" plasma for $2999? Anyway if anything get a 50-60"!

Yeah if you can hold tight do so, things are going to be changing soon with the digital broadcasting thing FCC already approved it so its all in time, when it does the prices on the exsisting sets will drop drasticaly and you'll kick yourself later, but now if you don't mine kicking yourself go ahead and get it and for speakers possibly do the whole satalite speaker set up it uses up less room, Book shelf speaker on stands & a sub, real clean. With most Plasmas they don't have speakers because they assume if your going that route your serious and you have the whole theater set up already with speakers.

Hmm... Food for thought. Thanks!
Thing is that I'm moving, and will be needing to purchase a TV. We took a look at some flat screens, but they have a lot of depth and require quite a bit of real estate. That's one of our main issues (that and the fact that Plasmas look cool. ) I'd love to get a 50" or 60", but the price difference is at least like $4k between those and the 42". I found the Panasonic piece we're considering for just under $3900, and it's non-HD. I read some reviews and stuff, and found that HD isn't really worth the price difference due to the lack of current support (I think it's like a $1500 price difference or something). Hmm... got a bit of pondering to do. ![]() azteklegend, It'll be mounted on my trunk lid. The trunk will have a motorized hinge (like on the new 745) that will lift itself open. When in position, the screen will pivot down and forward to a vertical position. Grab a couple of lawn chairs; prop 'em up behind the car; some popcorn, a coke, and we're all set! ![]() |

Yes. Gateway sells a 42" Plasma for $2999
BUT it is only EDTV. Does 480P Will not run a HD signal (1080 or 720) So its nice, I play around with it all day. BUT when things start rolling out that run true 1080i etc... You may regret it. Food 4 Thought -R |
