ATTN: 3.5 Swappers! Pic request:

Can anyone provide me with pictures of a stock rear of the 3.5 litre engine? Shots like these would be amazing:

I'm trying to figure out the differences between USDM and JDM.

Thank you!

Another thing I'd like to know... tube 21 runs from throttle body to... where on a 3.2 stock setup?

I think the only differences are symmetrical - the fuel lines run on the opposite side as well as the wire harness on the JDM RHD cars. Whats the deal, though? I hope you're installing a type II manifold and tossing that dumb RL stuff.

^I'll be getting there. I just want to get it running right now. I'm gathering TII cams, springs, valves, and manifold, but yeah, for now RL OEMness.

Odd. There seems to be a few differences on number of tubes and how/where they run. Anyone else see them?

There were differences in the 96 USDM motor and 98 USDM motor. I think some of the differences are related to whether or not it has traction control. Also JDM motors have different emissions systems and aren't OBD2 compliant.... Which reminds me to ask if the ignition coils on your JDM motor have 2 or 3 prongs. The third prong is a spark monitor that tells the ECU if and when the spark plug fired so that it can set an OBD2 misfire fault code.

Hmm, I'd have to check that. Does anyone know if there's a VIN on the engine anywhere?

... as quoted by mike diaz - "Personally, after you properly gut the RL manifold, it is definitely better than the Type I or II."

"I believe the VIS system was intended to raise gas mileage in city driving conditions. I can start off in 2nd gear, and it's actually pretty powerful right off the line. I do not believe it will hurt power down low, I actually feel that it increased power."

But dynos are not as accurate as the real thing...

For those of you that dont know what the VIS system is, click the SEARCH button. I first decided to disable the whole system which leaves the flaps in the manifold completely open. By doing this it gained me about two hp however i lost so much torque it was ridiculous! i lost about 10 pounds of torque in the lower end! I then tried both flaps connected to the low solenoid, i lost even more torque then both flaps open and i lost hp in the top end. I then tried both flaps on the High solenoid, my low torque pretty much stayed the same but my high end hp fell. Lastly i put the system back to normal and i got the best torque numbers and the best hp numbers. Here is a graph of the VIS dynos, you can compare these with my best dyno graph later in this thread since i used the factory VIS setup to achieve my max numbers..
