Engine Detailing @ 169k

Hey all! In preparation for the Tri-State meet, decided to clean up the ol' engine bay. Lenore just rolled over to 169k and I don't think it's ever been done, so it was quite a task.

So we start with a very dirty engine with strategically placed bags...

And we end up with this:

And just to strut our stuff:

You may note from previous pictures that I also removed my cheesy front plate. Very nice!!!

Comments PLEASE!!!

Good choice. I'd have gone the safer route and rag-in-a-box'd the hell out of the engine instead of using a hose but it looks just as good or perhaps better. Thanks for lettin me know what my car would look like with JDM headlights and I'm glad I won't be the only person representing red for the 3nd tristate in a row.

PS. Your mileage is almost identical to mine too. I'm at 168.5k.

I think OEM is the best look. I just don't happen to think any of the various arrangements of OEM got it exactly right all at once

Looks great. What a huge difference. I did my engine 3 weeks ago so same way you did. It is so much nicer to open the hood and do work now!

don't think you were asking me, but...

Your engine must be cool. All I did was cover everything that looked electrical with plastic grocery bags (same as in the pictures EvilRed92Legend put in this post) and then spray engine degreaser on everything else and washed off with a high power hose (not a pressure washer). It came out clean and the car started up without issue. I let it run for 15 minutes or so to dry off any standing water. Then after it cooled off I wiped down what ever parts I wanted to be shiny...use your favorite shine product.

here is the official forum link G2 DIY: How to clean your engine

Thanks for the comments everyone. I pretty much used the method 91LSplendid described. Covered up anything I didn't want soaked, misted everything down, sprayed degreaser liberally, let it soak in for a good bit, then misted everything again. I did that twice, using as little water as possible. Then I let everything dry up for a while (I wasn't about to let it run with these gas prices ). Once she was nice and dry I took the Armorall wipes to everything, and I mean everything. I was a little hesitant at first but when I started seeing how everything came up, I went all out. Even the exposed paint got the Armorall treatment. I was especially surprised as to how it shined up the hoses and such.

Thanks again for the comments, hope to see some of you at the Tri-State meet!!!
