Extra PC+Extra AC/DC minus $$$=DIY WTF why not (56K Warning)
I didn't want to say anything about the project till I convinced myself
I was going to go through with it, so since it's in progress here it is Car PC on a budget,I had some extra items sitting around the house depreciating and taking up space so I figured I would put them to use I am sure someone will ask a few of these questions so I will try to answer the basics now remember this had to be done cheap Processor AMD Athelon (forgot speed) AT board though I suggest ATX running 512 MB DDR Ram, NVIDIA 420 graphics card, cheap sound card, fire wire and USB ports, and a Belkin wireless internet transmitter 13Gig Hard drive, If the endeavor proves successful I will ugrade some of the parts like the sound card and switch operating sys to win tablet ![]() ![]() Touch pad mouse to allow for easy manuvering ![]() The other hole is for the momentary switch which I broke (Grrr$$$) ![]() Cleaned up some wiring and repositioned the crossovers for the tweets ![]() Getting this piece of the original TFT in there wasn't to easy, had to cut away a piece of the metal bracket on the left side of the console and reshape the two front brackets and cut a few sections of the case to get it to fit ![]() Tight fit but functional, somewhat, forgot would need audio in from PC for headphones, have to do that some other time, theres sticky stuff, buttons under ashtray are for amp and screen. ![]() Good bye 6 disc changer and hello everything player (temporarily naked) ![]() display is in for the most part (still needs a make over (faceplate) ![]() Fired up to windows log on (unfortunately as far as I got at the time @!&#$ ![]() Pulled the hard drive(s) to work through some software/hardware issues. And unfortunately this is as far as I am come payday I will figure out a way to make a coverplate for the sides or the whole face of the TFT display and I am certainly up for suggestions?

Not at all it is the way it is. I would do the same thing. I do still need a left horn button?

i've done the carputer twice before. i hated it. it had a cool factor only at night due to lcd lighting constraints using a touchscreen. and another huge factor was loading time. i got it down to about 15-20 secs cold start and i still wanted to drive my car into oncoming traffic from irritation. you should fill in/clean up the area around the screen and it will look ok!
heres what mine looked like at night: ![]() ![]()
