I bought another G2 coupe! LOTS of pics... (updated)
Well, guys, I have some good news and I have some bad news…
The BAD news: I sold the '86 sedan. Price = $750.00 The GOOD news: I picked up a '91 coupe. Price = $700.00 (!!) ![]() I am now the proud of owner of two G2 manual-transmission coupes! A buddy of mine who has had his '91 L 5-speed for about five years decided to sell it. The car needs some work, and thus the price was CHEAP. He picked up a new RL and pretty much just wanted to unload the coupe. I had first dibs on it .![]() I posted an ad at the USU student center for the ’86 (currently with 225,850 miles) at $895 or best offer. A few days later, I noticed that all my number tear-off strips were gone, but I’d had no calls, so I made up a better ad and lowered the price to $850 OBO. The car sold within two days! I sold it yesterday for $750 to a girl named Amy. She was thrilled. It’s a great car for that amount. Yes, yes, I know we paid $200 for it a year ago (some of you will recall) but we were into it quite a bit more than that in upkeep and repairs. The stereo system alone was valued at several hundred. I was really getting attached to my ’86 and was sad to see it drive away… Here's how it sat when the girl picked it up. ![]() At any rate, I got my $750 out of it (and made sure to keep the JDM clear corners – I reinstalled the stocks before the sale; Amy didn’t seem to mind). I think I’ll hang onto them for my next G1 sedan. So here’s the best part. Last night, I drove home to St. George (6 hrs) and this morning, I paid $700 for a running, driving, decent-condition 91 Legend L coupe 5-speed! The car was sold with no rims and tires (he’s using them on his RL), so I had to take my GS wheels over to install on it. It did come with an aftermarket CD player and subwoofer. I couldn’t be more thrilled! The car has 186k miles. Here is a "before" picture. The wheels were nasty; I didn't want them anyway. ![]() Here it is with my GS wheels... I also put my clear corners from the 94 on the 91 because one of them has a chip. I'll order a new set for the 94. ![]() ![]() The master plan is this: My ’94 6-spd coupe will get parked in Granny’s garage for the winter in about a week, sitting on stock GS rims. The ’91 will get the IS wheels and new tint – and I will be driving it at college this winter in the Logan snow. I’m having my buddy Jeremy (jay’s legend) install a new timing belt and water pump this week, since maintenance records are minimal and my friend isn’t sure if those items were changed prior to when he purchased it at 106k miles. It is very interesting to note the difference between the two transmissions, having driven both now. The 5-spd TYPE I feels to have more low-end power. It’s gutsy! 6-spd TYPE II is much better-suited for highway driving. Here are some pics from this evening with both cars (thanks Mastervtec for driving one of them to our photo shoot! )![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the next couple of weeks, I am going to be looking for some parts for the ’91 coupe. If anybody has any leads on the following items, drop me a line; otherwise I’m headed to Ebay. - Driver side interior door handle - Driver's side window switches - Passenger side interior door handle - Water pump - Clear corners - Left horn button - Spare tire - Passenger side visor ![]() ![]() The only mechanical issues with the ’91 are that is smokes a bit after idling a long time (bluish smoke), and third gear will occasionally grind if you don't go into it real easily. The car has a brand new radiator and the A/C was converted over last year. No overheating. I’m going to change out the tranny fluid; does anybody know of any additives that might help with the grinding? I was so used to driving the ’86 without 2nd gear that I don’t even mind missing a gear! Lol. The only other item worth mentioning is some minor LR wheel well rust. To make a long story short – I am going to have a LOT of fun with my new project. The detailing has begun! There is much potential in this coupe, but it’s going to take awhile to get it where I want it to be. The carpet alone will take days to clean; it’s almost as if he tried to “dye” it black with so much dirt . The car has tan cloth interior in good shape. I started detailing the dash and door panels with Simple Green but I had soiled five towels before finishing with just those parts! This will be a big project. Here's the interior... Carpet needs a lot of work still.![]() So there’s the latest. I will keep you all updated! Sorry for the long post .Tyson 94 LS coupe 6-speed 91 L coupe 5-speed Last edited by 4cruizn : 11-09-04 at 02:10 AM. |

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks the 5 speed is geared better.
Both lookin good. Wanna have a pic contest in the spring with both of our sets of coupes?

Thanks everyone. The car is looking much better. Mike -- the previous owner -- isn't gonna believe his eyes when I get finished with it
. Maybe he'll want it back. Gerald, the camera is a Canon PowerShot S400 -- best investment ever. I've loved it. Paid about $330 shipped (new) off Ebay, but that was almost a year ago. And Mike -- you're on! Photo contest it is . Just wish I could drive both coupes at the same time; otherwise I have to 'hire' a driver. Anybody wanna volunteer . |
