I'm Using My JDM Fogs as DRLs
I finished up a project that I've been meaning to do for about a year now. I came up with the idea of turning my intergrated fog lights into fully-functional daytime running lights, since I was on a mission to find some OEM fogs for the factory locations on my 91 front bumper. Needless to say, I gave up looking for them, as they are EXTREMELY rare and very hard to find in decent condition. But I had already purchased my OEM fog switch from A o A and wanted to use it and then I ran across these at WalMart...
![]() They are about as close as I'm going to get to stock. So, with me also wanting to keep my dash as stock as possible (minus the stereo), I took two relays, some wire, and about two hours and made my DRLs. When I turn the ignition to the "ON" position, they come on. When I crank up the car, they go off briefly to not drain the battery then automatically come back on once the car is running. Now the part I love the most is that when I turn on my parklights, they turn off and vice versa. Lastly, they shut down completely when the car is shut down. Check out the pics below, plus there is a video of them in action at the bottom of this post. The car is off and DRLs are off. ![]() The car is on and DRLs are on. ![]() ![]() Parklights are on and DRLs are off. ![]() ![]() Headlights are on and DRLs are off. ![]() And here is the video... ![]() I love the look, and it gives the Legend a more modern, more up-to-date appeal. I also know that this not a new mod, but I haven't seen where anyone made them true DRLs without adding extra switches to their dash. I wanted them to act the way true DRLs are suppose to act... through the ignition/ headlight system. All questions and comments are welcome. Enjoy! Daryll

Pretty cool dude. Does that mean you have your high beams also as jdm fogs?
Not to burst your bubble but i think a few people with CDM legends and JDM headlights have them wired this way, myself included. But it is cool that yours is USDM so you're probably the first to do it in that regard.

so your jdm fogs are no longer functioning as fogs, since they cant be on the same time as your headlights, correct? i thought about trying this but i just turn on my running light, and turn on my jdm fogs, with my wireless remote switch. if my running light are not on my jdms aren't powered. tried runnig it only to the battery, but it killed my battery when i forgot to turn it off.
how much extra wiring and relays to allow you to run them with your headlight.

Hey all,
Well, I can tell that there seems to be fans of DRLs on this thread. However I would like to remind you that there are plenty of other drivers that think DRLs: A. Do no provide any safety benefit B. Are annoying C. Waste energy and resources D. Cause other drives to be distracted by the lights and miss seeing other cars All is not positive in reference to these lights and I beg of you that you consider the impact on others before you make these kinds of changes. No matter how much you like the lights, they do have an unintended affect on other drivers. Thanks for your time |
