The JDM console is beautiful,
but seriously; you've got no parking brake, and the shift lock is disabled. Until the safety issues are resolved, the retrofit is not complete. I'm not diggin' the green cluster. How can you see the needles at night? Go full LED or go home. k.

Looks good man BUT.....
Why is the center console (cupholder) backwards? Is that how it was in Japan or was that so your console opened towards you? And, any ideas on improving your safety with out the e-brake and shift lock? Better hope your insurance company never finds out. LOL. -Eric

man. never got any neg comments about the radio before now... if i get rid of the radio, then i will have to get rid of the screen, if i get rid of the screen, then i'll get rid of the nav trim, if i get rid of the nav trim, i'll get rid of the console. i dont have a choice kids.....
also i didn't have a choice with the armrest. i still wanted a cupholder, and the jdm one would need to be fully recovered. i dont have the money to get it recovered in leather. so i used the US one. also, about the green cluster, i'm wasn't feeling it at all either, i am going back to stock once i get a free day from work. Keith, i haven't gotten the safety issue taken care of yet. for a quick fix, i would have to go back to stock shift knob. ebrake is going to be a bit more difficult. give me time! this is what is on my list to do:> back to stock lighting on cluster, etc. > aftermarket radio STAYS (unless someone wants to get a stock headunit to make use of the lcd screen....) > get foot brake worked out (need to find parts that will fit or work for my application) Since there are so many complaints about the headunit, someone shed some other ideas other than "remove the aftermarket headunit." If i go stock the screen will be pointless...(which i can't, USDM radio doesn't fit in the jdm spot --- single din vs double din) and jdm radio will not work in US plus i dont have the jdm radio.... any ideas ?

no i just didn't know what other choice i had other than the route i chose. i could somehow get a stock single din headunit down there, but then the problem arrises with what was the point in my getting the JDM nav trim? I can't put a double din up there, the space isn't deep enough.. and it would look 100x worse.
and there aren't any factory looking dvd headunits to replace the pioneer i've got. I"m still looking and no luck as of yet.. thats why i'm waiting on some input from people/.

i think the hu is fine, not the best but it works out really well, just wait for someone to come out with one that would work for you, maybe try looking to see if u can get a alpine unit they look alot better.
As far as the parking brake, since your car is an auto you really don't need it at all, so its not a big deal. The only really issue that is of a safety consern is that you don't have the shift lock. don't go back to the stock shifter it would ruin the look. and about the cup holder, thats just a great idea, i kinda want to do the samething, b/c i have a manual and they don't have cup holders and the one i have i got from blckonblck works but if i have a cup their its hard to shift

Why be concerned with what everyone else thinks...ITS YOUR CAR!!
setup looks fine to me and i dont see anything wrong with it. as long as you happy with it, you really dont have to answer to anyone. great work! |

Shaar-stop being so concerned with what other people think. You did something nobody else has done, and there are those that no matter what you do, will find something wrong. To me the parking break is not a big deal-heck the only time I pull mine up is to wipe the wood grain-I never use mine.

mainly i was concerned about the neg feedback on the headunit. i know i shouldnt concern myself too much with what others think, but i want this to look the best it possibly can. thats why i was wanting input on headunit options...
hey alex, i looked at alpines, they all have blue lighting... and grey body.. wouldn't look any better than what i've got. like i said, not concerned with armrest, because this works out for me. and parking brake, i never ever ever use anyways. shift lock, yes its a prob to me.. and i want to figure a way around it... maybe a button somewhere or some sort of release somewhere else? dont know... but can't wait to see some of you at nLarLM! only 5 days away!!!!!!

Would a diff. wooden shift knob with shift lock release solve your problem with the knob?
