PICS 90 LS Sedan Carpet Cleaning
![]() This is a shot before removing the carpet This is after cleaning. I used "oxyclean," a type of soap and stain remover. I scrubbed it, brought it in to dry, did the 2nd side the next day and then took it to a carwash to rinse the cup after cup of coffee out of it(thanx to these posts!). It does look somewhat better, Id say it's now 70%... good enough for now. But I'd bet some out there could get their carpets near 100%! Just remove it, work at it, mabey take it to a proffesional carpet cleaner? There could be no need to replace them, as the original quality is high. The grade of carpet and plastic form is really excellent, just like the rest of these cars. This is after I've re-upholstered the shift boot, armrest cover, and one of the front seats. These seats are well made, what a good design. I could not barely copy the topstitching, Robots must make these seatcovers! The vinyl cost around 3.50$ a yard, 6 yards was 20$!, way enough to do all the seats. If I had the money I'd get leather but I think they'll look as good as the 250$ specials on E-bay. These seats taught me alot, I need much practice. Should I do a DIY entry for the next seats? Please be honest. I could work on someones seats for practice, or trade for works with other Forum members when I get better. Tuesday I'm hopefully pulling the trans for the clutch or possible transmission overhaul, I'm sure I'll be looking and writing here for help! Ride on Majestic...AcuRAS |

Wow....the carpeting came out great ! You say that's vinyl you redid on the seats ! It looks as good as my leather replacement kit ! Very nice touch on the shift boot also! How long did it take you to do all this !??To spruce up the center console you should get the wood grain pieces that came on the '90 LS Coupes and Sedans. I have some extra pieces if you want them including the heater controls. PM me if you're interested. Check out the pics of my before and after in the sub-folder ND1989LS below the pics on my sig. What's the outside look like. Best of luck and keep up the great work !!!!
Also check out Ebay as there's a set of new OEM Sedan floor mats in black for sale that I bet would look good in your car !

Wow, that's awesome. I'd like to know more about the shift boot for sure too.
Oh, and you can work on my seats for practice too, because I doubt you could make them look worse. ![]() |

Here is a little bigger pics, thanxs for the compliments, very encouraging. ND1980LS you Pics are good, I will get that kit you talked about, it looks luxery. Closer up you can see the defects of my work, like those damn wrinkles. The topstitch(french seams) I tried but gave up, it must be perfect if its gonna happen at all. I didn't do the headrest yet, but for all the other parts I want to keep the ORIGINAL sides like you might notice on the bottom of the seat. It has a nice two-tone effect and the design of the topstitch on one side is nice. This also forms a template for the entire cover, it'd be like doing just inserts. Again these seats are originally finely upholstered, difficult to recreate perfectly. Any ideas about getting the original patterns, then we'd be in business! I'm excited to do the rest and more cars. I did the back of the seat first, but then really measured and drew patterns, etc. for the bottom which ended up much better. I just seperated the leather from the foam and reused the foam and hardware! I got this vinyl on sale, it's cheap, one could get some really nice material for 10$ a yard on sale. A simple project would be to pop out the shifter, remove the boot, copy it and sew some leather. I will use real leather for a steering wheel cover, just cut it to shape and sew it by hand onto the wheel. When I get to the next seats I'll take photos and do a DIY for less expierenced sewers. Peace. |

You did do a great job on this work. Not to many can do this, I know the seats have to be the hardest, but you did great. How did you do the shift boot and the arm rest? I would like to try these smaller ones on mine, I have the same color. My carpet though I took it to the carwash and used the engine cleaner on the rough spots and let it sit than rinsed it than can back with soap, let it sit for a few min the rinsed. I am not sure their is much more one could really do. And yesm it is less expensive that way, $5 to $8 at the car wash, I am ok with that.
