Rejuvenation of the Legend trip
Greetings:
The Legend was starting to get a little rough around the edges. The front and rear bumper covers were in sad shape. The hood had tons of rock chips. I went to a number of shops in the Seattle area to have the Legend brought up to my expectations. I was not real confident with what I heard or saw. Finally I called Tyson to get his valued thoughts, knowing he had just been through this. He shared the same concerns I had with his local body shops. Tyson recommended a shop in Logan, Utah. Logan happens to be 800 miles from my front door. I was thinking Tyson was wacked. I called the guy anyway to hear what he had to say. Within one-minute of talking to Kim at Autocare in Logan I knew he was the guy that was going to do the paint/body rejuvination of my precious Legend. Now who's wacked? Everything Kim said to me made perfect sense. I picked up on a level of integrity and genuine customer service that really made me comfortable with a guy I had never met. I trust Tyson and I trusted my gut feeling on this one. The deal was in the works. I drove the Legend to Logan Utah on March 23rd. I spent the night at the hotel just down the street from the shop. The next morning at 8:00am I was standing in the shop, meeting Kim for the first time. He knew me when I walked in and greeted me by first name as if he had known me for years. We walked outside to look over the Legend which had just endured 800 miles of post-winter Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah roads. I asked him to keep the car as long as he wanted and to call me when the weather got good for a nice ride home. Then came a big change in the program. A year of searching brought me together with an Acura NSX. Seriously, I looked for a year for the one I wanted. Last week Kim called and said the Legend was ready. I thought I would just fly commercial down to SLC to go retrieve the Legend. That certainly sounds boring. The NSX needed a little touch-up on the lower valence and the lower lip was missing. I said ROAD TRIP! I left at 6:00am on the 15th and headed to Logan in the NSX. The weather was perfect. From here I will let the pictures show the trip. This is just East of Pendleton, Oregon climbing into the Blue Mountains ![]() This is the mileage to the first fill-up. The NSX gets great mileage. 33.59mpg doing the speed limit (boring). Witchhunter did the injectors the week before I left. ![]() Somewhere north of the Utah border on I-84 ![]() If I had gotten stopped for the speed I was going on that road I would still be in jail. ![]() The trip home in the Legend. It was so nice to be back in the Legend. I love this car. ![]() ![]() This is between Baker City and LaGrande, Oregon ![]() ![]() Here is a shot of poor photographic technique ![]() This is back home in Washington, along the Yakima river. ![]() Buffalo burgers at Rossow's! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sometimes you can't control the scenery. ![]() The digital thing is coming along slowly. I am a former Kodachrome 25 and Fuji Velvia guy. I want to sincerely thank Tyson and his family. Thanks for looking. Last edited by DrDave : 05-19-08 at 02:04 AM. |

Glad you made it back safely, Dave! It must mean a lot to Kim and the crew at Autocare that you were willing to travel 1,600 miles round trip to have them work on your Legend. I hope they do an equally nice job on the NSX for you. Thanks for sharing the pictures! Makes me jealous -- about time to hit the road for another cross-country tour!

Dave:
I am going to give them a solid "9". If they had perfect parts to begin with I think they could have brushed up to the 9+ area. This was not a $20k laquer job for show. I am very very happy with their work. I am totally confident the NSX will look great. I had them do the bumper cover and whatever else he thought needed to be done. They are taking the hood down to bare metal and starting over. It will be ready next week. I am going down on the 8th to drive it home. Thanks to everyone for their comments. I sure wish I could make this digital camera think it was shooting Velvia. Dave |

Thanks for sharing your road trip story and beautiful Scenery as well as the Legend. Love your crystal pictures. It must be definitely worth the long drives to have both NSX and Legend painted by a recommended shop @ 800 miles away.
