SoCal Legends on New Year's Eve
No trip to Cali would be complete without giving a holler out to at least a few of my Legend friends in that area -- and I apologize beforehand to those of you who I didn't get a chance to connect with (Ian, Ferjie, Margaret etc). It was an action-packed (and Legend-filled) New Year's Eve and a beautiful day in SoCal.
After I test-drove the Legend in Sherman Oaks with 37k on it (thread here): Test-drove a 37k mile sedan! PICS and VIDS I moseyed over to Pasadena and met up with Aaron (kotetu) at JJ's Car Wash. I got to be a spectator as he entrusted his 6-speed coupe with a handful of diligent workers as they shined it up. They did a great job, and the pearl white coupe looked amazing after the wash. Aaron is well on his way to completing his Type F -> Type A interior swap. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After I hopped back on I-5, I started noticing a weird noise from the rear suspension. The car started handling funny. I took the next exit, and sure enough, the left rear tire had been punctured and was flat. Great -- my brand new Kumhos. Oh well. I rolled around the rest of the day with a full-size GS wheel spare on the left rear. You can see the culprit nail here... ![]() That, for the record, was the first flat tire I've ever gotten in the Legend while driving. I've had tires go flat while the car's parked, but never had to pull off the road and change one until yesterday. Not bad for 170k worth of driving. I guess it was my turn. Next was Jack (supra2nv) whose GS 6-speed was (gasp) sitting on the road with a flat tire! How dare he, lol. And it was the same flat tire (left rear) that I'd just replaced on mine! Thanks for the Capri Sun, Jack! Let me know when you get that MLS and the Pioneer navi installed. ![]() ![]() Then I saw Keith (mrkeith) and we took a brief opportunity for a quick, mellow canyon drive and a great photo-op. Keith's car continues to be one of the most inspirational coupes on the board IMO. Also, I must thank Keith for lending me his donut spare, since I was rolling around without any spare at all at this point. I'll get it back to you ASAP, Keith... but I'm not sure if it will ever fit around those Wilwoods! ![]() My new Canon appears to be over-exposing. I have a lot to learn about its operation, so keep that in mind. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally, I made it a point to visit Penny (Lady6spd) who recently took the keys to a very clean '94 GS 6-speed. Penny is probably the most Legend-savvy female I've met in my entire life, and she really takes pride in her car. We got some pictures at a park nearby. Penny then let me take the driver's seat for a short spin around the block. Her GS was the third GS 6-speed I've driven and it felt very much like the other two. The first was GrtOutdoorsAZ's car before he bought it, then the one I picked up a few weeks ago for smokinfastlegend's family. I loved Penny's GS. It rides like a new car. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks everyone for the memories, and Happy New Year to all. |

Nice pics, sounds like you had fun. Looks like you've got the hang of the new camera pretty well to me. Lots of nice Legends in Socal apparently, have to make it out there myself one day.
I noticed you managed to hide the GS wheel on the LR in all your subsequent shots, well done. How about just one pic?? PM me if you like lol. |
