Just a few shots from my commute back and forth from southern Utah to Phoenix over the last couple of weeks. I've been getting my school and apartment set up for the spring semester which starts on the 23rd. The drive to Phoenix from here takes about 6.5 hours and there are a variety of ways to get there. The most scenic one is via the Vermillion Cliffs Scenic Byway -- US 89A. It goes through some fantastic red-rock country on the Navajo reservation.
The Indians have booths set up every couple of miles where they sell their wares -- pottery, jewelry, etc. It's funny because the signs are painted "OPEN" all over, even though I hardly ever see people there working. One thing, too, that I just noticed is that the Navajos are now accepting Visa and MasterCard. So I guess they are getting up-to-date with technology nowadays. ![]() At any rate, here are the pics. They come from a total of three trips, so they're in a variety of weather conditions (overcast vs. sun). In some of them the back of my car is significantly lower b/c I was hauling all of my crap to Phoenix for the move. I've used my car as a moving van lots of times now, and I'm able to utilize more and more space each time! As I'm in the process of a move, I haven't been online much and won't be until I get settled in another couple of weeks. It's been a helluva month with family issues as well. I won't bore you with details. Taken at a little village called "Cliff Dwellers:" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() With these next couple of pics, I was wondering why my car wasn't standing out very well from the background... It just kind of blends in. And then it hit me -- the paint color is Desert Mist. What better place to blend in than in the desert? ![]() I was just waiting for a big gust of wind to knock that rock onto my car here: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's one of the Navajo Indian stores... Again, the sign said "open" but nobody was home. ![]() ![]() The Motel at Lee's Ferry: ![]() A cool pic with an old barn: ![]() Abandoned service station I found in Fredonia, Arizona: ![]() The reason my car looks lowered in the back sometimes: ![]() ![]() And I wanted to pull out the colors more on the barn picture, so here's a little Photoshop action. It almost looks like a watercolor painting: ![]() |
